Just back form the ER and I am now sporting some god awful type immobilizing brace on my leg and using crutches! They said it looks like atorn meniscus...what can I look forward to??

My dad just had surgery for the same thing--he is not allowed any pressure on his knee for 6 weeks

I had arthroscopic surgery to repair mine. Surgery was simple, with little pain afterwards, but I had to wear an immobolizer for 1 1/2 months and use crutches for 2 months. The good part is that I was off from work for 2 1/2 months. :cool1:

Realize that my recovery time was longer than the norm, because, as my doctor put it, "I had to use extra instrumentation due to the location of the tear". Then, because I am a nurse and worked 12 hr shifts, he kept me off from work longer than usual. He wanted my leg completely healed before he released me.

My DH had the same surgery. He used crutches for 1 day, then went to a cane. Because he has a job that allows him to sit, he only missed 1 day of work--the day before surgery (because he works nights). He had his surgery done on a Friday so that he had the week-end to recover, then went back to work on Sunday night. He used the cane for about a month. He never had an immobolizer or anything on his leg.

Hard to believe we had the same surgery and surgeons from the same group.

I had arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus. I was on crutches for 3 days and used a cane for 2 more days. Then I did 6 weeks of physical therapy. I used heavy duty pain meds for 2 days. Then I used advil after that. I really don't like the way the pain meds make me feel. I still have issues going up stairs but everything else is fine.

My mom had surgery for this. She wasn't even put under--just a local. She watched the whole thing on the little TV screen. She did great with her surgery and plays tennis a few days a week.
Good luck. Sorry it happened to you!

My DH had surgery for a torn ACL, MCL, & medial meniscus. He spent the night in the hospital because it was pretty extensive surgery complete with the insertion of a cadaver. He went to physical therapy a couple of weeks - didn't finish out his prescription. (He only went twice when he had his shoulder operated on so I guess two weeks is pretty good for him.) Once he received his custom fit brace he was back to playing flag football which was the cause of the injury in the first place. The surgery was six or seven years ago. Hasn't slowed him down a bit.

From my previous job, I would say you have some Physical Therapy your going to have to do. Hope all goes well.
