May I add...

RV stands for recreational vehicle, so I believe this would include everything including popups, towables and motorhomes (right?)

I'll break it down (can you tell people who own RV's really LOVE RV's LOL?)

Popup or fold downs - Box-like towable where the top goes up and the soft sides (beds) pull out.

Travel trailers - Hard-sided trailer than you pull behind vehicle.

Hybrid - Hardsided trailer with one or two soft-sided pull out beds like on a popup (right?).

Fifth Wheel - Hardsided trailer with big cab (?) section (usually a bedroom in that section) which is towed by a pickup truck. (This might be something for you to look into. My in-laws are going to trade in their Class A motorhome for a Big Sky Montana. The thing is huge with three pull outs )

Class C Motorhome - Already described above.

Class A Motorhome - Already described above.

I'm going to be doing tons of research, and have lots to go on now. Muffin, I will DEFINETLY remember the towing info, that seems invaluable!

One more plus. I always had problems getting people to take care of my dog while I was away. They would agree and then forget.

This way, we took Maxie with us.

Except Maxie thought that she deserved to sit in the front seat. It's a big seat for two people and it swivels. Anyway, she rode better up there, so I had to sit somewhere in the back unless I wanted to deal with the sad looks from her.

Serena brought up a good point about your pets, if you didn't have anyone to watch them the cost for a kennel would be a big expense when you returned. We had our dog when we spent the week at Fort Wilderness, he slept while we were at the parks. He kept his regular schedule of sleeping like he does at home while we are at work!!!

This was one of the main reasons I got interested in the whole idea! We have 2 dogs and one is horribly neruotic. He doesn't eat and mopes and whines when he isn't with us (IE: staying with family when we are gone.) I would love to be able to pack them up right along with us and go! When we do travel with Hubby now we have to plan all of our stays around hotels that take dogs, and then, among those which hotels that take dogs that we would actually stay in!

My dogs are like Serenas, they are family, and this would be a wonderful change of pace...

How did you like FW Krisu? That has me soooo excited! We could be in the parks and still save money, how cool is that???

Does anyone have any problems with camp areas not taking pets?

We have the Trailer Life Directory we got from The Good Sam Club (you can buy it on their website) This gives you all info on campgrounds. We have never found one that doesn't allow dogs, they may have some restrictions like being leashed and make sure you always have an updated vaccination history with you. I don't know about other states, but here in Ct. the State Parks don't allow dogs. We loved Fort Wilderness! We just decided to go to Florida for Christmas break. Fort Wilderness was booked but we found another site nearby which will be fine since we also want to do Universal, Seaworld etc. Another thing about The Good Sam Club web site, they have a message board with a lot of info.

If you are going to tow with a 1/2 ton be careful how heavy a trailer you get. Go to the car dealership and get a book about your truck. It will list the amount of weight you can tow, how much the truck weighs and what the ratio can be between the 2. Be aware that the truck weight listed will only include the weight of the driver, and you need to add in other passengers and gear that you load into the car or trailer. We tow our 27 foot with a 3/4 ton Suburban and it is great. No problem on hills, no problem doing the speed limit. Have fun shopping!
