Anyone Have A Tooth Pulled?

I have to have a tooth pulled that cracked in half from when I grind my teeth at night. It is the last tooth in the back on the bottom. I AM SO SCARED!

Can anyone share their tooth-pulling stories with me? What exactly happens? Thanks everybody!

Awww, try not to be scared!!! I had my wisdom teeth pulled for a bunch of reasons (they could have stayed if I wanted them too). They were straight pulls and I had them removed all at the same time. They numbed my mouth and then did the pullings. I didn't feel any pain, but a little bit of pressure. My jaw was only slightly sore after and I had some pain killers just in case. Really it wasn't much of a deal at all and I am happy to have the teeth gone. Good luck with yours

Several years ago I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled because it was impacted and causing a lot of pain. The actual procedure didn't really hurt. I got a shot of novacane(sp?) and then a lot of other stuff. My mouth was sore and swollen for a few days but nothing that was unbearable. I had pain killers but those things always make me feel worse the pain itself so I just relied on motrin. I couldn't eat anything solid for several days so I lived on yogurt, apple sauce and tomato soup. How all goes well for you.

I've got to have a tooth pulled out next Saturday and I'm scared too. Plus I have a fear of injections which really does not help!

I had two wisdom teeth pulled last year, and I was terrified. I hate shots, too, so I was scared of the numbing!

However, my dentist numbed the shot area with a topical numb-er, then gave me the shot, which I barely felt. Then once I was numb, she started pulling. I could feel pressure and could hear it coming out (which was awful), but it din't actually hurt. The second tooth I could feel a lot more, so she gave me two additional shots of the numb-er.

Afterward, I had a prescription for painkillers, but never got them. I was fine on Advil. Though I was starving and could barely eat!

I've had a few teeth out over the years (and i hate dentists!)
Like everyone else has said you actually feel nothing during the procedure itself........the only difference i seem to have is that it never stoped me eating....i was back to eating normal food by the time the injection wore off (about 2 hours)

As far as the injections go, the dentist i went to recently for my root canal taught me to wriggle my toes during the injection and take lots of deep breaths.....that worked quite well for me

If the dentist starts pulling the tooth and you can feel it, ask for another injection......i had about 4 when i was getting a wisdom tooth pulled...after the first one you don't feel the rest anyway!

If a dental procedure hurts you need a new dentist.

I have had virtually everything done at one time or another, including having my gums cut so they could drill through the bone to get to the bottom of the tooth ( 4 times !!!! )

My dentist was so good I never felt anything. He absolutely believed there should be no pain, and made sure there was not. His methods left me so relaxed that I was always worried about falling asleep in the chair. And, in fact, I once did. Fortunately he was not working on me at the time.

I've had a total of nine of my adult teeth pulled because I have such a small mouth, and I don't really remember anything but some slight discomfort the day it was done. I had four impacted wisdom teeth taken out, and my face was sore and swollen (for my senior prom no less!), but nothing that wasn't manageable. I think I had liquids only for a day or two after. Hope everything goes well for you!

Ditto to all, have had 2 mollers and 2 wisdom teeth pulled,

didn't feel a thing, My latest was a Root Canal, now that I was nervous about, but turned out the same, didn't feel a thing.

I totally agree. I just recently had the last molar on the bottom pulled and there's nothing to it. The worst part is getting the injection of lidocaine (or novacaine.) After you are nice and numb, he reaches in pulls that sucker out and you are done!

The dental assts. put some gauze back there and tell you to bite down because pressure will help stop the bleeding.

I'm usually fairly sore at the injection site, but that's it!

A good oral surgeon will also hand you a script for some good pain killers, just incase. If so, get it filled to have handy. Better than waking up at 3 in the AM and not having anything stronger than Motrin or Tylenol.

My DD, 8, just had two more teeth pulled this past month, bringing her total to four thus far. (Tiny mouth, very crowded teeth) Is it particularly fun? No. But other than the "bee sting" of novacaine and the sounds of the tooth roots coming loose, there isn't any pain. Take Tylenol before you go so it will be working ASAP, and keep taking a regular dosage. This should keep pain at bay as the novacaine wears off.

As a kid, I had twelve teeth removed, thanks to bad teeth genes. Then when the braces were off, they pulled out the four wisdom non-erupted teeth just to protect the investment!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at the same time. I went to an oral surgeon and he put me out to pull them. I can't remember why, something about it being hard to get at them with my mouth. I dozed off and when I woke up they were gone. My mom thought she heard me screaming and asked the girl at the desk. She said it WAS me, but that I was laughing in my sleep. I guess I felt a little too good.

I had a lot of swelling in my jaw, but the pain wasn't too bad.

this may be only me but a discman with hard rock usually covers the sound of the drill(I had oral surgery done year before last)

I've had two teeth pulled...my top left wisdom and my bottom right wisdom. The top left wasn't so bad, just had it pulled because it was really sharp and was constantly biting my cheek.

Now, the bottom right one was horrible. I was having serious pain with it, went in to get it pulled, and they took an x-ray. When the doc came back in, I noticed the bottom left wisdom tooth was coming in sideways! I kinda laughed and said, "Thank goodness we're not taking THAT tooth out...it would be a pain in the butt!" The doctor looked at me funny, turned the x-ray around and said, "That IS the tooth we're taking out. The bottom right wisdom."

Well, no wonder it was hurting so much.

The novacaine wore off about halfway through and they had to give me three more shots to numb it...took almost 45 minutes to get that thing out of my mouth. It hurt for almost two months.

I just realised I am having a filling on Saturday!! My tooth is being pulled out in 3 weeks time. I had a total of 10 teeth out when I was younger as I also have a small mouth but was put to sleep by gas for this which didn't bother me. I'm going to the doctors on Tuesday though to get some sedatives to take before I go to the dentist otherwise there would be no way he would be putting a needle anywhere near my mouth!! It worked last time I had to have a filling so hopefully it will work this time. If you are that nervous perhaps you could do the same.

Hi! Good luck at the Oral Surgeons! I work in an oral surgery office and we get lots of chickens , so you're in a very large club . With a good oral surgeon you won't feel anything but pressure. If your nerves get the best of you ask if they offer Nitrous, but be aware that NO insurance companies will pay for it and I know that in our office it's $75 payable at the time of service. If you think you may need it make sure you eat light because it can sometimes make you a little sick feeling if you eat a heavy meal before you have it. Make sure if you are going to take anything before you go to the oral surgeon you check with the oral surgeon before hand. There are some things they prefer you not take before the surgery. Just follow all the instructions you are given (you would be surprised at the amount of patients who don't ) and you will be fine in a day or so. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I had a tooth out this past summer. Because of a heart problem, I couldn't have the stuff that puts you to sleep. I was really dreading the procedure. The novocaine injection hurt alittle but the extraction was pain free. I was really nervous but I went to a dentist who only does extractions and he really knew what he was doing.

Good luck. It's obviously not as pleasant as walking down Main Street USA but if you have a dentist who really knows their stuff, it can be a simple event.

By the way, I have a wicked fear of the dentist.
