I've heard the hype that Siberians are less likely to cause allergies. I have asked my vets, who only treat cats, and they don't have even ONE Siberian in their practice. I want to know if it's true, semi-true or fiction.

Do any of you own a Siberian? If so, what has been your experience? If I'm going to shell out a small fortune on a cat instead of getting one from a shelter, it certainly needs to cause less sniffles..... :cat:

I looked into it a few years ago, when my now ex-daughter-in-law was so allergic. Most reputable breeders have long waiting lists. BUT they will send you a sample of the cat's fur so that you can see if it will cause the allergy or not.

I did allergy shots when I developed allergies and we had 3 tabbies. The shots worked wonders.

We now have 2 siamese cats and they are lower allergy too. Some people are allergic to a protein in the saliva and if you are, siamese and abbyssians have the lowest levels of the protein. I'm not at all allergic to our cats.
