Anyone have a Roomba?

I am considering getting a Roomba, but I was hoping to get some reviews. Plus I have a couple of questions:
1) Will the Roomba move from hardwood to an area rug & then back to hardwood w/ ease?
2) What about fringes on area rugs? Will the Roomba suck those up & get stuck?
3) Will the Roomba move into the next room if I want it to? Over a small threshhold?

OK - that is everything I can think of for now! Thanks for your help. :goodvibes

1) No.
2) Yes.
3) Probably not.

We love our Roomba, anyway, even though it is currently out of commission. (They're supposed to be sending us a diagnostics kit. It's been a week... maybe I should call them again.)

I do not know the answers to any of your questions but I thought maybe you would like to hear from someone else who has one.

I like it. It gets the job done. I do know that it "knows" not to go down the stairs to the front door though. It must have a sensor of some kind.

DH got it for ME for Christmas....and I know why. For the last few months before Christmas, I was always asking him to vacuum the living room in the morning after DD, DS, & I left for school.

Well, TA DA, Christmas morning comes & I get a ROOMBA. Now he uses THAT every morning after the kids & I are gone. Now he doesn't even have that chore to do. he just gets it going, & then goes upstairs to shower for work.

I do get to see it in action on the weekends though. It just roams all over the living room. I have no idea how to turn it on, set it, or anything. :confused3

We love our Roomba! It does have it's limitations, but I use mine most every day. Do a search for Roomba and you'll find more comments about the roomba that might help you make a decision.

I think Mabel would have a field day with it ;) ;)

Our kittens will get right in the Roomba's path and dare it to run into them and then give it a dirty look when it does. :rotfl2:

I despise vacuuming so a roomba sounds quite appealing to me. Here are my questions:

1) Is it loud? Can i run it while i'm in the same room?
2) How is it with pet hair? People hair?
3) How long does it last on a charge?
4) Does it ever get stuck behind a chair or something?

We love our roomba. It does a great job on pet hair--even the German Shepard that spends time at our house.

I mostly use it in the living room (low-pile carpet) and kitchen (linoleum) and it does the job, for sure. It is a little noisy, but we can still watch tv and stuff while it's going.
Our's lasts about 2-3 hours per charge, which is enough for both the living room and kitchen.
The only time it got stuck was under DH's big wooden rocker. It got under fine, but then the chair settled and it couldn't get out:)

I'm trying to decide how to get the $400 scooba--think roomba, but it mops and drys! That's my kind of robot. With a new house on the horizon, I think the only way I'm getting that sucker is a not so subtle hint to daddy:)

Now if they would just make one that scrubs the toilet and the shower, I'd be all over it :teeth:

No, got a nice Hoover with windtunnel and hepa.

I do, however, want a scooba. that's the one that mops your floors for you. Takes swiffer to the max. I'm dropping hints for Mother's Day!

Oh, I love my Roomba! I've named mine Spot:dog:. This thing is the best invention ever! It cleans my floor so well; it has sucked up lost Barbie accessories, a large dress-up ring, quarters, that we didn't know were under the sofa. Mine is great. It will go from room to room easily but, mine wouldn't go over a threshold, it wouldn't go over it.

I tucked my fringe under in the past so that it wouldn't get stuck. BUT, recently I've cut the fringe off my rugs because I didn't want to bother with it and I didn't like the fringe anyway.:thumbsup2 I like Spot better than stinking old fringe!:teeth:

Our Roomba just gets used for the kids' bedrooms. I like it for that since they know on their Roomba day they better have their floor clear since I just start it and shut the door. Some weeks Roomba day is the only day you can actually SEE the floor in DS's room.

I don't use it in the common areas. It drives my family crazy - but I've gotta see the vacuum marks... and they MUST be done in my special pattern.
DH helped out with the vacuuming in the family room the other day (a rare occurance) and he went side to side instead of front to back. Drove me crazy all weekend! I fixed it the minute he went to work this morning.

:teeth:I tell my kids they better clean their rooms because Spot's going to visit their room. Who knew the Roomba would put kids "in gear"?:thumbsup2

I love, love, love, love my Roomba - I don't know what I did with out it - well actually I do - I moped around complaining about how much I hated to vaccuum and then do it only when I had to.

We have the programmable one and it comes with little virtual walls to block off any where you don't want it to go and it goes back to its back when it is finished.

lets see - the questions - I used it on my hardwood floors and carpet - it goes over that threshold just fine - I would think it could take any threshold you wanted it to - oh and it goes from hard floor to the area rug just fine - never had a problem

fringe - it will suck it right up and get caught - yep that could be a problem

if it gets in trouble it will turn itself off -- and stay there til you come fix it

It does fine with pet and people hair - mine came with a tool to clean it off the brushes as needed.

It is about as loud as a normal vaccuum I guess - I am often in the same room with it - doesn't bother me

I tell people all the time that I think this is the greatest invention - the programable thing is great - I set it for 9:30 am - after DH and I are at work and the kids are in school - I come home about 11:00 and the first level of our home is done and the little fella has gone back home.

CAn't wait to get the Scooba - yes I have started the Christmas hinting - things like "Scooba, Scooba Doo - I need you" :lmao:

Don't know about the Roomba, but I saw an advertisement for the Woomba on Saturday Night Live a while ago, that one sounded interesting too. ;)

OH and I wanted to tell about how the hamster cage got tipped the other day - (no harm to the hamster) and we took the Roomba in there set it in the middle of the mess - shut the door - came back half hour or so later and poof - all done and it looked great!!

Did you put the hamster back in the cage first? I have a mental image of the Roomba in a dual with a hamster. :teeth: Not sure who would win! :rotfl:

I want to get one of these also. I hear they do get with pet and human hair. And I don't have any carpet in my house so I think it would do great for all the little stuff that is on the floor.

So what Model does everyone have that LOVES it?

I have the Roomba Discovery. It comes with 2 virtual walls, a charging base (Roomba returns to it to charge on its own), cleaning tool, a thing to hang it on the wall, and a remote. I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond with a 10% off coupon.

You just gave me an idea, based on your other thread! I never named my Roomba, even though my DH always told me that I should. I could just never come up with the perfect name (you know where this is going, don't you? ;) ). I'm going to name my Roomba snarky. My family does NOT know about the whole snarky thing on the DIS, I don't even know if they know what it means. I'll tell them that it means moody and witchy, as the Roomba can be, but in a fun way. :teeth: And we all know that it sucks anything up that's in it's way! Thanks for the inspiration! :rotfl2:
