with the "Escape" package? DH agreed the other day to do a VR at Disney for our 10th anniversary. It is still 3 years away so I have plenty of time but I am a little concerned about not getting the date we want since I can not book an escape package until 8 months out.
Has anyone had a problem with this? or better yet have you been "bumped" for another wedding? I know they say they can "pencil you in" at 12 months but not be under contract until 8 months.
Also if it makes a difference we are look at Dec 16th. I am not sure what day that might be in 2010 anyway so it may not be as much of an issue but I would like it in early (ie before winter break) December if I can't have the 16th.

SummerIrmoma,
Just wanted to let you know that December 16th is a Thursday in 2010. I'm looking at a custom, but I still can't do anything until 12 months (40+ days) when I meet with our SM to discuss the wedding. I won't be able to do anything until 8 months anyway. I believe it's the same for custom and escape weddings for that (with the exception of a few venues). The couture weddings may be different, but I'm not sure. So far, my SM tells me my date is open.

Happy Plannng!

According to the Disney Wedding website:

For Escape Weddings, all outdoor Resort locations can be booked up to 1 year in advance. Disneys Wedding Pavilion can be booked at eight (8) months in advance for Escape Weddings (subject to availability).

Basically, you can book any of the other ceremony locations at 12 months out, only the Pavilion is restricted to 8 months. Considering another venue can help if you really are set on a specific day and time.

In addition, if you are flexible with the time, that might help you get the location you want.

December is a pretty busy time for Disney weddings. But, to be honest, I have only heard of a few brides not getting the date/time/location they want.

Remember that the 8 or 12 month rule applies to all weddings. So no one can reserve it until that time (its not like other people are booking weddings right now for your date).

If you confirm close to the 8/12 month start date, then you have a really, really good chance of getting time/date you want. The only time you wouldn't is when there is a special event (like a corporate or similiar event) already schedule for that time/location.

Thank you all. I guess I may have read it all wrong or got the wrong impression from my reading. I am trying to talk dh into doing it sooner like our 8th anniversary which would be next December but that isn't going so well. :confused3

BayouPrincess I see you are having your VR at SBP? What made you choose there? Right now that is my top choice but I haven't decided yet.

I guess the thing that made me choose SBP is that we love the Boardwalk area. I've seen many pics here of weddings that were held there, and they are just gorgeous. It doesn't need much decoration because of the atmosphere so you can save money on that aspect of the planning. Also, we are having a reception of sorts in Epcot with a dessert party too and it's quite close. I have been told by my planner that we will not have to use Disney transportation for the Epcot stuff, that we can just enter through the International Gateway and be escorted to the venues.

Ask around, many others who are haveing or have had weddings there can answer questions. I'm still quite new to the planning and still have yet to start a PJ. I guess I'm going to wait until after we have our site visit/session with our SM next month. I'm soooooooo excited!

I'll keep ya'll posted on progress.

Welcome to the boards!:dance3:

I know you didn't ask me...but thought I'd share my thoughts.

I originally wanted to get married at Sunset Pointe...but for various reasons we decided against that and the folks at DFTW suggested Sea Breeze Point. OMG! I was thrilled with it!

I had never been to WDW so had no idea what things were really like and pictures really just don't seem to do it justice.

The structure itself is just so charming and quaint...but large enough to be quite impressive. We did things very much on a budget so didn't decorate it at all and it was just perfect! The location while just off the Boardwalk still had an "intimate" feeling (at least to me) and it was just the perfect atmosphere for what we wanted.

Good luck with your planning and I hope your DH comes around!;)
