Anyone have a family member in the College program....

Our daughter will be going Aug. 2004. We plan on making 2 trips and are hoping for a 50% discount on rooms. I have heard very very little bad about the program. Just that kids get homesick or don't like the job they are doing. I would like my daughter to have a car while she is there but, coming from Washington state that is not going to be possible. I am extremely excited about the whole experience. Not just for her but, for us too. It is possible to get credit for the classes they take. It is up to the college the kids are attending. I can't get enough infromation about the program. I just want more.

Maybe I missed it, but I was checking on the official website for how much the tuition is for the college program and I couldn't find it.

How could I find what the costs are?

I was in the WDWCP in 1990  and it was wonderful! However, I do agree with an earlier poster that suggested students wait a few years before going. It is the best place on earth and you will never want to leave!

I would also like to notify parents that it is one big party down there. Much more than college. I won't even mention the nicknames they have for the program, or the living area. While I don't want to scare anyone, I just hope that parents remind their kids to be responsible. Please don't flame me, I'm just trying to throw some reality in the mix. :D

Tigger&Belle, have you looked at the tuitions at MD state schools? They have increased dramatically over the past year and a half! My son is at College Park and it is costing us more out-of-pocket money than when my daughter went to a private school in Florida! Better brace yourself! :)

Yes, tuition is high. I guess I'm in denial... :) My daughter needs to start visiting some colleges and decide where she wants to apply. She's the oldest of 4 so I'm new at this, but will have lots of experience before long.

There is no tuition cost for the CP. The cost comes in for the college credits you may need to take through your college or several of the ones that WDW recommends if your college will not give you credit.

Some may see it as one large party but there are others that never got anywhere near one while in the CP.

My daughter did it for the learning not for the parties. When she attended any activities it was after working all week and carrying a full college load.

She took all the Disney taught classes also.

I went to UMD College Park and did the college program for 2 summers, 1998 and 1999. Loved it. It was the best experience of my life. My roommates are still my best friends and I met my boyfriend through another friend from the program.

katerkat--2 of my roommates were guards at BB the summer of 1999 as well!!

The program is a great experience,a dn definitely a good resume adder. Also the number of students they take each semester varies dependent on the economic need, but no worries roughly half of the Walt Disney work force are college students. I was on the program back in 2001 and its a great experience but definitely not for everyone. And as most say it can make things change. I had finished 5 semesters of school when I did the program and then decided to move to Florida. And unfortunately like most people say I have not yet been able to return to school. Unlike many though I have not given up, It's just been hard to afford until now. I've been with the company for about 2 1/2 years now, and I love it. As far as the program goes, it is always running 365 days a year. And they run it on Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Well can think of anything else to say, so if you all have any questions feel free to ask. pirate:

I don't think they offer the program anymore during the summer.
