Winnie's allergies are acting up again (it's spring!) and she is about to chew her paws off. She had been on Atopica but it causes her white blood cell count to drop to ZERO! Dr. mentioned Zyrtec as a possibility. We're going to see her tonight. THanks.

I take Zyrtec, it works fine for me without complications, but like all allergy meds, it doesn't work on everybody. I didn't know dogs could take it, but I hope it works for her.

We used to have a dog that was on OTC Benadryl, it didn't seem to have as many side effects as some of the Rx medications that the vet had us try first. It actually worked really, really well for his allergies.

My DD takes Zyrtec and it works great for her!!

Thank you. I actually take it also! Benadryl doesn't seem to help her much.

luvwinnie, i have 2 goldens who are highly allergic! they would chew and lick their paws raw and bloody ( and other not so nice areas...) someone mentioned to me to try a different type of food. and IT WORKED! we would experience seasonal problems 2x a yr.... sometimes with my 1 dog yr round...

the food is by a company called eaglepack ( they have a website eaglepack.com) it is hollistic dog food..i know it sounds totally weird, but it made sense to me once i got the info. with my dogs they were allergic to some protein found in normal dog food. they needed to be exposed to a different protein that they have never had before. so we started out trying the duck base food and within 2 weeks the hotspots and itching went away! we also had cronic ear infections with one of my girls, and they too have almost gone away.... the food comes in 30lb bags and costs @ 32-36$ depending on where i get it from. a local feed store carries it for me and i can also order it online from petfooddirect.com i'm telling you it is what saved both my girls from the chewing and licking!

it was reccommended to me by a golden retriever rescue group. seemed as if when they would get in abused and malnourished dogs that this was THE food to turn around their health and behavior... i've stopped the benadryl and claritin for over a year now!!!
