Could you please tell me the pros/cons of getting a Class C motor home. We're tossing around the idea maybe next year getting another tow vehicle or trading in our travel trailer for a Class C, something used.

It just looks so convenient to get a Class C and something that I, a woman, could just easily turn on the key and go instead of having to hook up a trailer to tow. On the rare occasion that DH wouldn't be going camping.

Thanks for any advice:)

We have an Itasca 31' Class C. We have had it for almost 3 years and like it. I have driven it a couple times and don't really mind doing so. We have one large slide so for the 2 of us it's pretty roomy. We are at some point, finances allowing, looking to get a 34' Class A. We want a bedroom slide. If we could find a floor plan we like with a bedroom slide we would stay with a Class C.

We switched to a "C" in 2001 and now have a "Super C" and never plan on going back to a TT or FW. There are lot's of advantages, you never have to set up a "hot box" when you arrive, the MH is fairly cool with just the dash air. The same applies to when you stop at a rest area for lunch. Jump in the back fire up the gen for the roof air. Potty stops are a lot more convienent as well. We have four friends (women) who each have a class "C". Two of them travel extensively, one, maybe both are full timers. So it is something that would be to your advantage if you want to "batchlorette it" some times.

We have a 35' class C with 2 slides--4 Winds Dutchmen. This was really our only option as we 5 children ages 11 to 4. There is nothing we could tow with a tow vehicle that accommodates 7 that would comfortably house our family.

That said--I don't drive it, yet. My dh loves to drive it and swears it's a dream. It's a Duramax Diesel and does pretty well but really--I'm doing good to get the Honda Odyssey safely around town. :rotfl2:

The wife and I just recently got rid of the big truck and 5th wheel for a 31' forest river class C. We havent looked back . The wife can drive it with no problems and it has plenty of room for the 2 of us with just the one living area slide .
One thing you should know about a class C . They are NOTORIOUS for leaking in the cab over area . So if you dont need the sleeping area over the cab I would try to find one without the windows in that area . Just one less spot to keep an eye on for leaks .
On a side note , the salesman found out one of the reasons we were downsizing was so the wife could drive it . He made sure we both drove it before we walked off the lot . Well we didnt "walk" off the lot after she drove it .If you get my drift . :drive:

we have a super C and love it. i drive it without a problem. i just don't drive it at a higher rate of speed than i can handle. i keep it at around 62 or little more.

our "C" has 3 slides and yes, it really makes a difference.

just make sure YOU drive it before you buy it. if you are somewhat comfortable on the test drive, you will probably be fine. but, there are some out there that you may say "no way!" hands down, this is not going to happen. so, just take a few out and see what you think.

I miss my class C terribly, and drove it myself, "camping widow" with DS and doggie to FL numerous times. When we sold it we really lost out on value, though, because of leakage in the cabover area (that we "thought" we'd been meticulous about taking care of:confused3) so, although I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, I'd never buy another one with windows in the cabover.

Love our class C 31 ft Tioga. It has 2 slides and plenty of room for our 3 sons. This is our 2nd class C (our first one had issues with leaks over the cab). But it seems easier to get around in than the 34 ft class A we had before.

Thou I love my Class A, there are things I miss about our C's (we have had 2 of them). I could drive it and set it up myself, used to drive it around town (upstate NY) like a car. I loved the sleeping room. Class A's seem to have less sleeping space and aren't geared towards families usless u get the bunks.
I love the extra room in the A's, but that said it also depends on what and how much u r going to use it.

We are looking into Class C's, too. Good info about the leaking windows. I'll keep that in mind!

We our on our second class C. with 2 adults ,2 kids and a german shepard plenty of room . Ours is a Itasca 31C 1 slide , yes they do have leaks above the cab but they make them now with no windows in that area. Also look for delamination on the side of the coach thats where water leaked under the skin and loosened the glue. They are easy to drive and park esp. in FT. . The nice thing about them is the cab area is the same as the regular van counterpart so getting parts and someone to work on it is easy.

Yes, we do leak from time to time in the cab-over area. :( That has been a pain but not enough for us to do without that sleeping area, yet. Fortunately we caught it before the warranty ran out and had it completely fixed.

I'm astounded that you all forgot one small but important thing: 2 bedrooms. Someone can sleep over the cockpit and there's a bed in the rear. It still shocks me that a few class A's sometimes have only one bed but no hideaway bed in the sofa. Amazing that you pay that much money for a class A and the hideaway bed isn't always available!:scared1: And some class A's easily cost wayyyy more than a Ferrari!

Love our Class C! We got it used about a year ago...it's a 93 but like most used MH's has low mileage (65,000). The RV repair facility we use had it so we traded our pop up for it and NEVER regretted it. It's 30ft. w/a rear bedroom and the traditional cabover sleeping quarters. We watched it get re-done before the purchase due to a leak in that area. DW worries about the leak everytime it rains (i keep an eye but since the re-skin it's been ok:thumbsup2) and for what we paid if we get a few RELATIVELY trouble free years out of it it's all good. I do the driving and i would much rather drive a MH (and tow a car when needed) than drive the truck and tow a trailer. As a previous poster said being able to pull off and stay in the MH to use the bathroom or fridge/dining area is great! When we stay at the Fort we don't tow a car so it's pull in, level, plug and go play!:cool1:

I love our Class C! I can drive it easily, where I wouldn't have driven our Expedition/trailer combo if you'd paid me. I love being able to go right into the back to fix lunch or whatever...super convenient. Ours is old, an '89, about 28ft (no slides) in excellent condition. It had 40,000 miles on it, and we paid a whopping $5k for it, figuring if we didn't like it, it was no great loss. Turns out we love it! We haven't owned it long, but we've had no problems with leakage. I wish we had gone the Class C route years ago!

Very true, we have the same "rig" as 4mickey2 and with the dinette we have room to sleep 7.. Queen in the back, queen hide-a-bed, dinette, and a single bunk in the cab-over with the ent center. Lot's of room for grand-kids...That's why Grandma bought it.

we don't have a bed over the cab. that is our entertainment center. but, we have the hide a bed (pulled out the spring mattress & put in a foam cushion) and the dinnette.

we don't need the extra sleeping area and really love the lay out with the system up top.

the floor plans with extra sleeping that i like have the bunks. i just think that is a neat idea.
