We are looking at a 1999 Beetle that has 50,000 miles on it. It is in really good condition. They are asking $10,900. Any pros or cons about this car? How about reliability and repair problems? Thanks for any input!

Mine is a 2000. I love it. We've had problems with the airbag light coming one, but VW has been awesome fixing it. Even after the warranty ran out, they paid for it. I have had the O2 sensor replaced, and that's all the work. It gets great mileage, and, for the most part, is comfortable to ride in, maybe a little bumpy. My husband, Stephen, is 6'4" and can sit in it comfortably. Not a lot of room in the back, but our kids are out of the house, so that's not an issue. Mine's a turbo, so it's very quick. I have about 40,000 on mine. Ask if you can have the VIN so you can run a check online of the specific repairs made to this car.

All in all, I love my car.

Roger has a 2001 VW Beetle. I think the only problem that he has had was a fuse problem with one of his headlights (and he was in an accident and the front got scratched up pretty badly....a lady made an illegal U-Turn directly in front of him....but obviously, that's not the car's fault LOL.) He loves the car (and so do I :) It was my dream car before he got one-although his is white and I wanted the light blue color.) He also fits in it comfortably and he's 6'1".

How are the beetles in snow/ice conditions?

Mine's great in snow and ice. Front wheel drive and close to the ground. It has ABS brakes and a sensor that tells you if your tires are spinning.

I can say that Roger's has done a pretty good job in the few storms that we've had this year. There hasn't been much snow, but his car has handled what we have had fine.

Thanks for the quick replys. Wish we had snow to drive on. We just have to worry if there is enough room in the car to evacuate when the hurricanes come.
This VW is white also and really cute. I did notice that the outside rear view mirror control knob was broken off. I have no idea how much $ that would be. I did notice that the drivers side door panel just below the window was sort of peeling. Any experience with this problem?? Thanks again for any info on this issues!!

Out of curiosity, do you have children and do you plan to get the child-safety features, if so? I can tell you they work pretty well.

On mine, both of the door, inside handles are peeling. Have been since just after I got it. It never really bothered me, so I've never looked into having it fixed.

My sister has a '99 beetle. She also had to replace the O2 sensor. She also had a fuse that blew (she couldn't use the horn after that one until fixed). She likes her car a lot. She does okay in snow she says but she has a hard time getting out of deep snow/ice grooves now and then. Otherwise she has no complaints at all about her car.
