I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't get enthusiastic at the prospect of redecorating, remodeling any part of my house. Ever. What is the channel? HGTV? I can't stand it. It just makes me feel bad about my own house and my almost complete inability to update anything.

It's not the money...not usually. It's the moving of all of the furniture. It's the ripping apart. It's the NAGGING of the DH to get it done (any project, we're looking at 2 months. Even changing a lightbulb :rotfl: ). And then the PRAYING that the kids don't destroy it for at least a year.

I'm probably pretty much alone in this. IRL I sure am! Just wondering...

Love to decorate. Wanna come cook at my house and I'll decorate yours? :rotfl:

Yep, hate it. I hate spending the money, I hate doing the work, I hate coming up with ideas. DH hates putting holes in the walls, so it makes it hard to settle on something, because he won't be happy if he has to move it.

We have been using "Command Hooks" from 3M more and more. They adhere with adhesive, like sticky tape, but do not damage the paint when you take them off. Sometimes I will hang something with one of those to make sure I like it before I ask DH to put a hole in the wall.

I'm not good at it. I paid someone else to decorate my home. She gets many compliments! And I always admit that the only decorating I know how to do is pound a nail and put up a picture. It's lucky I like paintings so much! She did all the rest.

I love it, but there was a time I found it to be a chore. I think for me it's related to whether I feel I can afford to change something, and how far I'm willing to go on it. For example, I just "redecorated" the upstairs bonus room for my girls for Christmas. Mostly this consisted of shoving all the junk back into the attic, but I did order some comfy loungers from PB Teen and frame some Disney posters. Next I'll paint DD13's room - she got new bedding for Christmas, and a friend is passing on 2 club chairs, so I'll reupholster those for the girls as well. That's this year's project, anyway!!!!

hate, hate, hate it. My DM asked me one time if I went to Hobby Lobby and Jo Anne fabics everyweek like she did to get new decorating ideas. I think it was a hint I need a new look. She couldn't believe it when I told her I only go in those places when the kids need supplies for school.

Yes I still have all my rooms wallpapered in Debby Mumm prints. I liked it when I put it up and I still like it now so I don't see the need to change anything.

I can never visualize what things will look like:confused:
That and I have a horror of making a big, fat expensive mistake!:headache:
And I don't want to spend $$$ on a decorator--the ones that I like are not going to come out to the sticks unless I have an extra 2 thousand over & above what they charge.
I come from a long line of decorating impaired females.:sad2:
My Mom, bless her heart, had red shag carpeting & wrought iron wall ensembles & that was after it was suburban trendy! My DNieces-in their 20's--wish they had that stuff now.:rotfl:
I keep buying magazines--eewww, isn't that pricey!--hoping to find something I can exactly copy
I am going to be hosting meetings at my house, & my committee--including one well known decorator!--all have lovely rooms:scared1: You know, the type of rooms that contain a lot of personal items & heirlooms, but still looked lived in & refined at the same time
Well, mine looks lived in..:rolleyes1

I used to enjoy it before we remodeled our kitchen but now I'm totally burned out. What really killed it for me was our decorator - she did awesome work but was completely undependable and it took so much work to get anything done. I don't have the time and energy to deal with it anymore. I still don't have my window treatments up and it's been over a year now. One of the major things on my to-do list is to find another decorator, finish off my kitchen and then get started on the rest of my house. Maybe if I can find someone more responsive and dependable it'll be fun again.

I would like my house to look nicer, but really can't picture how things will look. Lots of our friends are buying houses that are run down and doing them up... they look so amazing when they are finished.. but we just don't have the time or inclination to do it. Dh says that he works and gets paid so that we don't have to do this stuff ourselves. I feel a little embarrased that we can't do it ourselves... but everyone should know their giftings, talents and limits I guess...

Well since I have a degree in Interior Design I bet you can get that I........HATE IT!!!!!! :rolleyes1 I am so bad at making decisions it's not funny. Then if I'm working on one room I have to fret about how it will go with the room next to it and then next to that one. Not to mention the money involved. I'd rather spend it on vacations and facials. :rotfl:

We decided that we aren't following our friends down the new house route for exactly that reason... we'd rather have the available cash to make yet another trip to WDW...:goodvibes

I was born without the decorating gene. :( I wish I could, but I have no idea what looks good. My house is so boring...but I don't know how to fix it. :confused3

It's not about what 'looks good', what matters is what you like. A lot of things that supposedly 'look good' I can't stand and could never live with. A good decorator should be able to determine what your tastes are and come up with various ideas for you to choose from. But still, it is helpful to have some idea of what you want because I've nixxed several ideas my decorator suggested that I knew I would be unhappy with, but that's all part of the process I guess.

I enjoy rearranging and organizing, but don't like the stress that comes with the work "decorating". I just want to be surrounded by things that I love in a way that I like the way they look - it doesn't matter to me in the least whether a designer would approve.

I enjoy HGTV, but don't always like the looks they come up with. I swear HGTV generates SO much movement in our economy. Now even college students have to have a room that looks just so.

I'd take you up on that! I love to cook so much I went to Culinary School! :teeth:

We need a chef smiley.

I'm not good at visualizing either. Add to that I am pretty tight with my $$$. I would love to have a nicely decorated house but I doubt I ever will. My MIL is constantly showing me her new curtains or picture or some other decoration in her house and I never get that WOW feeling she is wanting I guess. She also loves to show me books or magazines with pictures of how she thinks my house should look.

I'm really not that interested in decorating, especially the conventional faux-Tuscan, Pottery-Barn-Threw-Up-In-Here tripe that is popular around here.

I just keep finding better uses for my money--when it comes down to a choice between painting my walls or going back to WDW it's not a hard decision!
