Anyone going to WDW JUST FOR celebration?

I'll be there May 8-14, planned this about 2 years ago. Lately, I (and others in the same boat as me) have been concerned that there will be monster crowds because of the beginning of the 50th anniversary celebration. We've all been typing back and forth about this, crossing our fingers, but I guess we've never asked the question:

IS ANYONE GOING TO WDW ON OR SOON AFTER MAY 5 BECAUSE OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION??? I'm not asking if you'll happen to be there at that time, I'm asking if you had no intentions of being there at that time but then decided you wanted to be there on or soon after May 5th ONLY because of the 50th anniversary celebration and all of the attending hoopla.

THANKS!

We planned on going anyway this year, but the celebration will just make it an even better vacation. We are going end of June and cannot wait. That is all we are talking about. :)

Interesting question. I wonder how many are going just for or mainly for that reason too.

I will say, I've been doing a little informal poll myself off the these boards (family members, friends, co-workers) and no one, not even ONE person that I've asked knows that the Celebration starts May 5th and more than half of those people didn't even know there was a Celebration. Granted, it's a pretty informal poll, I mean, it's not like I'm standing in a mall with a clipboard, but it's still making me wonder who the heck is booking all the rooms and taking up all the PS's for early May! LOL!

Nope!!! Just worked out that way! Actually we are leaving on the 5th so I really hope we miss the majority of the crowds.

Hiya :wave2:

I am not going until end of July but have been planning since dec '03 and would have been going anyway regardless of event etc.

When I was there in Oct '02 there was some kind of celebration (think may have been Walts 100th birthday) and even though it wasnt on the scale of things for the 50 years celebration I cant say I came across anyone who was there because of it.

Yes...I am going to be there on May 5th for the celebration and had no intention on going until a few weeks ago. My sister was at the AK for opening day and said it was a blast. She highly suggested I go for May 5th. What made my decision easier was that I had 200 extra DVC points so I will be in WDW for a week to enjoy the celebration and the crowds. :cheer2:

we changed this years trip to feb since we usually go at the end of april/begining of May. We wanted to avoid the massive crowds that are anticipated. I still would have liked to have seen some of the celebrations.... but we had fun anyway.

I'll be there one May 5 too and frankly am a little disappointed since we were hoping to have low crowds (the reason we booked during that week). What exactly is happening during the celebration that is drawing the crowds? I know there are a few extra rides open, but they will remain through 2005 at least.... what else are we in store for??

My DH is taking that day off of work specifically so we can go to the Celebration.

We were originaly going May 1-8 which technically has a few days after celebration... but we wanted to get Magical Express so we changed it.. Then the particular hotel room (cheapo standard at CBR) was booked the week following so we changed to May 16.

We are going the 4-10 and it isn't b/c of the celebration. It just worked out that way. There are still rooms available at the resort so I think it won't be TOO crowded...at least I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that!

We're going to Disney Land this year specifically for the 50th! And we will probably make a day trip up to WDW on the weekend of the opening celebration, just to see what's going on.

yes i planned to be there especially for may 5th cause may 5th is my birthday and i thought it was cool that the celebration started on my birthday :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
