I have never done a solo trip, but I want to do this race soooo badly, and this might be the only way for me to go.

We have a family trip planned for December, so I can't afford to get airfare/meals for all three of us again in October. Maybe I can swing a solo trip if I try and pick up some extra hours at work this summer or do some ebaying, etc.

Is anyone else planning to go alone? I am a little nervous about being there myself!

Lisa, Erica and I would be honored to hang out with you. How long do you think you would stay. We have a lady who is driving up from Tampa who will be catching a few hours after the party in our room before she drives home, surely there is room for one more.

I may very well be going alone. I'm sure there will be enough of us WISHers that we'll have plenty of company!

I spent a week in WDW for the half in Jan 2006 and will probably be alone for ToT. It was actually a lot of fun to make my own schedule and Disney is probably the only place I'd be comfortable enough to be on my own for any length of time. There are sure to be lots of WISHers around too!

I did the Disney 1/2 this year alone, I wont be doing the Minnie alone, however I will probably be doing the TOT alone. Although I like the company, I enjoyed doing the 1/2 alone for true self reflection and determination ;)

If I was going to go it would have been a solo trip. Infact, I'm doing the full marathon solo in '08 and I don't really mind. I think it will be fine..enjoy your trip.:cutie:

Hi,
I have been to several Disney races including full and half marathons by myself. You will not feel lonely and will have a great time!

:goodvibes

There will be lots of WISHers there.....feel free to hang with anyone that walks/runs your pace. Don't feel alone.....we're all family here!

I won't be to the World alone but I will be racing alone. Looks like there will be a pacing requirement for the race and my oldest won't be able to handle it I am sure.

Is there anything official on the pacing requirement? I can't find any mention of one on the site. I already signed up my husband who is just slightly better than a casual walker. If there was a requirement, I think they would have posted it before opening up the registration.

I emailed them asking if there would be a pacing requirement. They did email me back just saying there will be a 16 mile per minute pacing requirement.

I am confused too because I asked about BOTH 6.5K and 13K. The 6.5K is open to all ages and well, that is tough for young ones to maintain that pace.

So according to the email I am receiving there is, but it isn't listed under Eligibility like the rest of the requirements. :confused3

Well, if it isn't posted, maybe we should just play dumb!

I sent a general email to the WWOS so maybe it was a generic response. When I click on the register online for the ToT event, there is a contact button for email and phone. I sent an email to the event director for the ToT and asked again to clarify. I just want to make sure before I sign up my son so I don't put him in the wrong event and such.

I think I will call the phone number tomorrow as well, I just tried and their office closes at 5pm.

ETA:
To me it is confusing because, 1 - it isn't listed
2 - The age requirement is lower than the regular marathons by 3 years. The physical difference between 11 and 14 is quite a bit.
3 - There is no age requirement for the 6.5K
4 - Both races start at the same time, so if there is a requirement for one and not the other (because of the 6.5K open to all ages) then how would they know who belongs in what group?

I am fine with it if there is requirements, I just want to know so I know where I need to train and where I need to register my 11 year old.

I have heard there will be a 16 min/mile pace.

Well, in grand Disney style I have conflicting reports. My email said a 16 min per mile pace. I called the phone number listed to confirm and was told a 15 min per mile pace for the 13K.

Also for the 6.5K he said that there is also at 15 minute per mile pace BUT they are giving them a little extra time since it will go along the same route and starts at the same time. The 6.5K participants have until the 13K people finish to complete the race.

They also will have check points to maintain. I forgot to ask how they would know if you are a 13K or 6.5K when coming to the checkpoints?

I called 407-938-3398 if anyone is interested.

So there you have it, looks like it is a 15 min per mile pace for both races.

Given Disney's reputation for giving out MISinformation, I'm not going to panic until I see it on the website. My husband probably can do a 16 minute pace with serious effort......a 15 minute pace could possibly kill him. The website says no refunds, but if they accepted registrations without posting the requirements, they should be willing to at least refund the $65.

Personally I think it is strange they aren't posting the requirements. They should update their website.

jeanneg,

I have what is probably a dumb question but what is the pirates of the panama canal in your signature???

Thanks,
Kelly

Thanks everyone for your replies- I definitely feel encouraged by everyone else who have/are going it alone to the world. I guess I am just nervous that I will feel out of place not having anyone to talk to, eat with, etc.... but knowing that other WISHers will be there definitely makes me feel better about it. Now, just WISH me luck that I can come up with the funds to go somehow!!

Thanks again!
Lisa

PS- Dave- thanks so much for the kind words- if I get to go, I will definitely get in touch with you- I would love to meet up with you and your wife!

It's the siggie for the Repo cruise in August 2008. The ship repositions from the West coast to the East and passes through the Panama Canal in the process. There is a VERY long and active discussion thread on the cruise forum, but right now I'm too busy with other stuff to keep up with it.
