I am having some problems and my doc's office won't even run any tests:confused3 I am 31 years old and I honestly think I am trying to go through menopause. I have actually went without a period for 5 years before and they seem to think that's ok. Now, I am spotting 2-3 days every week and am on an emotional rollercoaster:sad2: Some days, all I want to do is cry and other days I feel like I could hurt somebody. My mom had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 23, which my doctors know. I'm just frustrated. Anyone else going through this?

No. But I do think your doctor is a jerk and it is time to find one that will listen to you and take your concerns seriously. Your health is nothing to mess with; especially considering your mothers history. Go find a new doctor tomorrow ok? :grouphug:

Definitely get a new doctor. I spent many years telling mine that I thought I had endometriosis (and the reasons why). No, he said, you're a hypochrondriac; you're crazy. Went to another doc, she said the same thing. About a year and a half ago, I couldn't walk, I was in tremendous pain all the time. Went to a specialist. She asked me what was wrong. I said I think I have endometriosis (and this is why). She yells at me that she's not going to just cut me open (seemed reasonable to me - I didn't know about the surgery at that time).

Made an appointment with her supervisor. He did an ultrasound. Within 3 seconds (no kidding), he said yep, you've got endometriosis. Turns out a mass of scar tissue had accumulated under my pelvis (about the size of a 4" x 6" card) and woven itself throughout my intestine. That's why I couldn't walk!

So, bottom line: you have to go with your instinct. If you think something is wrong, pursue it. And ask friends for recommendations. Once I found a great doc, things got a whole lot better.

Good luck.

Time for a second opinion.
But I will tell you when I was convinced I was going through early menopause I ended up being pregnant!:faint:

Been there, done that and I have the kid to prove it! I went about 5 years not having regular periods. I would go 5 and 6 months at a time. The Dr. didn't seem too worried about it, so I didn't either. One year I just kept feeling worse and worse and finally the Dr. ran the test and it was positive.

Nope, not pregnant. There for a while it seemed like every time I turned around I was doing a pregnancy test (we actually would love to have more children). We have one daughter that is 13 now and I have only been pregnant one other time , that was when my daughter was 2. I was having really bad morning sickness and they kept doing ultrasounds and after a few weeks they told me the baby never started developing. The next week I had to have a d&c, I was actually 10 weeks along and my body didn't miscarry on its own. Plus there are some other factors from a birth control that caused me lots of problems-don't know if it's ok to actually list the name on here but wish I hadn't went that route:sad2:

I am in my mid 30s and I believe that I am in the beginning stages. I have terrible night sweats. I soak the front of my PJs (and I only wear cotton tanks or camis.) and the sheets around my neck/chest. I will be going for my annual exam at the end of this month. I plan to talk to the doctor about it.
I am subscribing to this thread because I want to know how many have gone through it in their 30s and the symptoms. (I am curious to see how many get the night sweats too.)

I agree you need to see another doctor. He or she should be listening to you, and addressing your concerns.

It could be a myriad of things which are causing you to have irregular cycles. Generally doctors won't do anything about irregular cycles unless you are trying to get PG, or unless they are really bothering you for one reason or another.

When you go in for your appointment, bring with you a diary of symptoms, timelines, frequencies, etc, espeically emotional ones or pain. Also bring a list of questions. Don't just go in and say, "my periods are irregular, do you think it's menopaise." They will automatially tell you that you are too young. You need to get specific.

Also, what was the reason for your mother's hysterectomy? Cancer? Endometriosis? Fibroids? If you can pinpoint that, it will give you and the doctor more justification to run some tests.

Good luck, and I hope you are feeling better soon.

I had a friend with those same symptoms go through this circle with her doctor for three years. Her doctor would insist she was too young and that was that. It didn't matter that her mother had gone through it at 32. We finally convinced her to go to another doctor and she found one that specialized in menopause. After a thorough round of tests, it was confirmed that at 35, she was indeed going through menopause. She was relieved to finally be believed and not made to think she was crazy. Definitely see someone else! If it's not menopause, then it could be another condition that should be watched and treated.

Hi

Unfortunately - it is possible to go through menopause in your 30's -- I just turned 33 and I am going through it now -- I got diagnosed about 8 months ago when I was having trouble getting pregnant and it had been a year and a half of trying.

It is not super common but it happens -- I was diagnosed with a very simple blood test checking my FSH levels (follicile stimulating hormones) -- anything over 10 = menopause or perimenopause.

I had irregular periords and night sweats plus was on/off moody -- totally fine and then would cry over nothing...

Get checked -- insist on an FSH test.

For me - I was glad to find out so I could go other routes towards getting pregnant while I was still "young." Plus - there is more you need to know if you are in your 30's going through menopause including certain health screenings and deciding whether to take hormone replacements ---- another big risk/concern is osteoporosis.

Get the FSH test -- it will give you a quick answer and it is easy to do!

Good luck. PM me if you want to talk or have some private questions!

Another 36 year old going through menopause here!! Went for my check up last May, told my NP my symptoms and the first thing she said was "lets do some blood work and go from there":thumbsup2 . I don't remember my FSH number but my estrogen(w/BCP) was 30, normal range is I think 130 to 400. I have been on 1mg Estradiol a day since and my favorite part is not waking up at 2am to sweaty bedding, plus I don't cry as much.

Time for you to find a Dr who listens, I mean it realy is just a simple blood test to find out if that is the problem or if you need more testing.

Wow!! I had no idea it was this common, thought I was abnormal or something.

My 30's were a nightmare w/night sweats, hot flashes, depression, etc. These can be symptoms of perimenopause but these symptoms can also be those of hypothyroidism. Get your levels checked.

What did they say when you went 5 years with no period? I'll be 40 in a few weeks and haven't had one in probably 2 1/2 years. I was never regular, used to have one about every 3-4 months...well the doctor freaked out about that and put me on the pill to be more regular, well the pill made me cranky, and OMG my ****s were so sore that I couldn't move, so she put me on some lower level pills and I had basically no period with those, so I just quit taking them.

I went in last year for my annual and she did a bunch of blood tests and from what I saw everything was ok. I don't have hot flashes or any other symptoms...just no period....

Go with your instincts. See another dr. My cousin insisted that she had some kind of female problem going on and her dr dismissed it. She finally hounded them because she just "felt" like something was wrong. Turned out she had stage 2 ovarian cancer.

Trust your instincts

Another one here, I started having very irregular periods around 35. Dr. put me on BC pills. I took myself off of them after about 2 years and never had another period, which was really cool but I knew it wasn't right. Then the hot flashes started. I was dx at 38 with "premature ovarian failure", basically premature menopause.

You might try googling it, there are several websites with good information. One is earlymenopause . com.

It is important to have it checked out, because if you are post menopausal that means your body is not producing estrogen. Estrogen is very important for your bones and you may want to seriously consider hormone replacement therapy. That'd be ASKING for osteoperosis if you go 15 or 20 years w/o it. Its one thing to make a decision against HRT at a normal menopause age but could be detrimental to your health at a young age. You need to discuss options with a knowledgeable doctor, especially if you're looking to have more children.

Sorry, I really don't mean to sound like a know-it-all. I guess I know just about enough to be dangerous!! :rotfl2:

That's what worries me...it's time for another annual check up.....I'm happy as a clam not to have any more periods...but I need to make sure nothing else is going on...

I went to my regular doctor for my night sweats. He did blood work to check thyroid, gave me a TB test and AIDS test. Everything was fine. He seemed to think menopause was out of the question, but he is baffled by my night sweats. He told me to see my female doctor. Since my annual exam is this month, I will be talking to her about it.
I tell you, I hate waking up with wet pjs and linens!:scared:

I know that I am pulling up a really old thread, but I am curious about something and figured you all would be able to help with information.

I am 38 now. For about 5 years I have been having night sweats. I will even be bold enough to say TERRIBLE night sweats. I have been to a few different doctors. They have done blood work, tests, etc. and they cannot find anything wrong with me. None of the doctors wanted to say that it could be early menopause. I am convinced, though, that it has been hormones all the time.
In March of last year, I had TERRIBLE nipple soreness just after my period. This soreness was not the entire breast, just the nipples. It was the same thing that I experienced when I was first pregnant. I just knew that I was pregnant again! Thankfully, I wasn't! The nipple pain lasted the entire month until my period began. Well, during this past year, I have had several months with that same nipple soreness. I am experiencing it now. It is just like when I was pregant. So I know that it is hormone related. I would say that it has happened about half of the months this year. The nipples hurt horribly when clothes fall over them or rub against them. It is crazy! Is this another sign of early menopause? Does nipple soreness happen with menopause?

I don't have an answer for the previous poster, but I have to say this is fascinating stuff. I am 34 and my periods are more regular now than ever. They used to be every 30 - 35 days, now they are every 30 days on the button. I hope this is all a good sign, since DH & I will be trying to get me pregnant as soon as possible.
