Anyone go to wdw 8 days after gallbladder surgery?

Had my gallbladder surgery 6 years ago in June...spent 8 days in the hospital since gallbladder was so bad it was gangreened....talk about being really sick...missed 5 weeks of work....the heat was a killer....you will have to take it real easy and maybe do half days....parks in the morning....back to the resort in the afternoon for rest and maybe a little time at the parks for fireworks at night.....but if I have to keep my feet up it would be in Disney before it was my living room....
Take it slow....take it easy...but most of all enjoy yourself!

WOW!!!:worship: You are blessed!! When we go anywhere to eat, the first thing I take note of is the restroom.

I just had to go research this because I couldn't imagine what would be causing such a problem. I guess I'm one of the 60% of people who don't have any problems after the surgery.

"If you have the less common, but not unusual side effect after gallbladder removal of needing to run to the bathroom immediately after eating, you are probably getting too much bile instead of too little. This, unfortunately is much harder to control."

It doesn't really say much about how to fix the issue but I'm thinking there must be something you can do.

You'll still be tender and need more rest, etc at just a week after surgery. I agree with staying away from the fried, oily, fatty, etc. Just take it easy. Get some extra rest. Go take a nap during the hot, miserable part of the day, even if no one else goes back to the resort with you.

I wouldn't plan a lot of activities and just take it easy, but it would be better than laying around at home! If you are driving down, just make sure you get out of the car and move around a lot. You're more prone to blood clots in your legs after surgery, and that increases with a long trip (car or plane). If you can't get out and walk every hour or so (that would really lengthen your trip :scared:) at least pump your feet up and down to exercise your calf muscles. This will keep the blood pumping and lower your chance of getting a clot. I hope you have a great trip and take it easy! :thumbsup2

Yikes I had mine 14 years ago and boy I feel alot better. I must be in that 60% too I can eat anything and never have a problem....I would not overdo but me I was out skiing in 3 weeks. Maybe it depends on age???

Thanks for all the information, I am feeling better this morning its just hard to be tied down, I am use to working 11-12 hours a day. My office has been wonderful not too many problems for me to solve. i am planning on going into work monday. I definately am leaning to get a scooter, what can it hurt, my daughter who is 16 said it will be embarassing, but oh well, sometimes you can't judge how a person feels when in pain.It also will be really hot, I just feel that I am in no position to cancel out with so many people coming that first week.

Thanks again everybody, I have enjoyed hearing everyone's story since I really don't know what to expect never having surgery before.

Definitely get a scooter (and don't worry about your daughter--she's going to be running around without you most likely anyway!) Do what you need to do for yourself. Check out the Disabilities board--the stickies at the top have infor about scooters and companies that people have been happy with. Walker's and Randy's are the two most often mentioned; both times I have gone I have used Buena Vista Scooters (which is located at Boardwalk onsite).

Good luck! and have a great time!

I went to WDW about 3 weeks after gall bladder surgery.

Personally, it took me about 2 weeks to recover (though I've known others that were feeling good the next day).

It took me about 5 - 6 years to have my digestive system return to "normal". For me, I quickly learned about the "circle of life" when eating greasy food.

i had my gall bladder taken out on a friday and was at the mall eating at red robin sunday. never any problems with food. back to work on tuesday. by wed. dr said i could do anything within reason. took a week to get around really good. go just take it easy.

Remember to look into evening extra magic hours if you are not feeling too well. I find it less stressful in the evening when it is cooler. If you have a scooter, that will be much easier also.

I took my mother (86) and Aunt (84) to Epcot, got them both scooters (ECVs). They set them on rabbit (instead of turtle) and I "ran" all day. They wanted to see everything and they did. They made it around the world and then some.

It is possible to rent scooters from outside sources for your length of stay. Companies drop them off at your villa. Sometimes the parks run out of ECVs and then you need someone to push you in a wheelchair, so having your own is peace of mind.

Age? I was old when I had mine taken out, I was 45!
