Hi everyone,
i had emergency gallbladder surgery tuesday june 2, we are scheduled to drive to wdw from illinois next thursday june11th, right now I basically feel like my stomach has been run over by a truck. I had the surgery laproscopic but instead of 3 holes in the stomach I have 6 because my gallbladder was inflammed and I had a stone stuck in the duct. I would like to cancel this trip but we borrowed points because of our use year Aug, and we are staying one week at kidani in a 2 bedroom, and the next week at home resorl vwl for 5 days in a studio. There will be 22 in our group the first week we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, the other friends are staying some with us, some at okw, some at the campground and some at marriot's cypress harbour.
I guess I am wondering if any fellow diser's have made a trip like this after a surgery like mine, by the way this was the first surgery ever for me and hopefully my last. My husabnd thinks I will be just fine and be normal in a week?

I had my galbladder out last summer but got a wound infection after. I had laproscopic a well. I hope you are well enough to travel.

I felt great after about 5 days, but I couldn't have seen going to Disney after 8. Even after 14 days, my stomach was still very tender, the stiches were just coming out and food was a little rough.

I don't know about Disney but I chaperoned a week long youth camp with my church 7 days after I got mine out. I also had the six holes- funny your the first person I 'met' who had that- and felt awful for the first 5 days, but after I went from the prescription pain meds to plain old tylenol in the am and tylenol PM at night I felt a whole lot better! I would suggest going but taking it easy with lots of naps. The nurse in the recovery area told me I was out of my mind for doing it but my doctor actually gave me the "OK" as long as I took it easy- whatever that means with 70 teenagers!

:) What about renting a scooter and taking it easy in the a.m. then lying around in the room like a queen bee in the afternoon. I tell ya recovery in WDW in a resort room beats my bedroom any day. Take care and best of luck.

No I have never done anything like that but I agree with the PP.......get a scooter and rest in the heat of the day at the resort. You might do better than you think recuping at WDW than at home. I mean if you are going to lose the points........you might just go for it. :goodvibes

I've never had gallbladder surgery, but, have had 3 C-sections and bladder cancer surgery (no incision with that one) and can honestly say I agree with above poster who says you will feel better when you're off the prescription pain meds and able to use just Tylenol to control your discomfort. My own personal feeling about the prescription meds is the quicker you get off them the quicker you will begin to get back to normal. You will still have some discomfort, but, Tylenol will control that and not give you that "floating, narcotic feeling" that prescription pain killers does. I don't know if I would have attempted WDW after any of my surgeries (maybe after my last C-section.....I was great after about 7 or 8 days). If you do, please keep in mind it does take at least 2 to 3 weeks to get over the really tired drawn out feeling about mid-day. I think you will need to really take it easy and make sure you nap or at least relax in the afternoon for a few hours.

I've had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery on a Saturday and was back to work on Monday. Of course, I left after a half day. The next day was the launch and I had to be there for that. But it took weeks to recover. I'd say to you enjoy your viewing of the animals, because you won't be doing a lot else.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Also, after my gall-bladder surgery I always kept a pillow on my stomach for cushion.

One more thing, learn where all the restrooms are!!!:rotfl2:

Why learn where the restrooms are? :confused3 I had gallbladder surgery and stayed home from work for a week because that's what the doctor ordered. But I felt a lot better after just a couple days.

I remember not being to lay down in bed for a few weeks though. I slept in a recliner to be comfortable and not have the incisions pull.

Yep, I'd say take it easy but go and enjoy and let them take care of their Queen Bee on her 25th Anniversary Trip. Scooter, wheelchair, whatever you need. Hey, at least your party will get great seats for shows!

BTW, Happy Anniversary! 25 is quite an accomplishment, congratulations!

I was still on medical leave from work 8 days after my surgery, which like yours, was complicated due to inflammation and a stuck stone. And there's absolutely no way I could have been back in the office at 8 days, let alone walking around a theme park in the extreme heat and humidity you'll have on your trip. I wouldn't have lasted 20 minutes in MK on a June day. I was extremely tired, too sore to be comfortable laying in bed so I wasn't sleeping well, and eating was like playing russian roulette. :scared1: I hate to say it, but it took me a good few months to feel like myself again.

I'm not going to say 'don't go'. I will say, accept that this is going to be a different sort of vacation. Rest, read, hang out at the pool. Visit the spa. Do the resort activities, like the storytelling. Go for walks around the resort to get your strength back. Take the parks in short stretches, early in the morning or in the late evening, and don't hesitate to rent a scooter. And if your digestion is wonky, a high fiber diet will work wonders for you. Lots of fruits and veggies, take it easy on fatty foods. I'd recommend those Metamucil fiber cookies with breakfast in the morning, they're great for travel.

Thanks for all the information, I am feeling better this morning its just hard to be tied down, I am use to working 11-12 hours a day. My office has been wonderful not too many problems for me to solve. i am planning on going into work monday. I definately am leaning to get a scooter, what can it hurt, my daughter who is 16 said it will be embarassing, but oh well, sometimes you can't judge how a person feels when in pain.It also will be really hot, I just feel that I am in no position to cancel out with so many people coming that first week.

Thanks again everybody, I have enjoyed hearing everyone's story since I really don't know what to expect never having surgery before.

Definitely will want to be near bathooms. The first couple months everything went through really fast!

Best wishes & continue to feel better lexib :goodvibes

Hope you have a wonderful trip & 25th anniversary celebration :thumbsup2

If you can, let us know how things are going.

I agree, know your bathroom locations and stay away from fatty, fried, oily foods. It's been 3 years since I had mine out, and I still can't eat dressing on my salad. Something about the oil in it, I guess.

The other thing I learned is not to skip meals. Keep your eating schedule as routine as possible - that also helps the digestive tract not go wacky.

I didn't stay on the narcotics but a few days. Their side effects are that they slow down digestion and your intestinal tract and can make you constipated. It did that for me, so I got off of them. Once I got 'that part' of me back to working I felt much better.

I'd say go for it, and have a great time. Everyday you'll feel better and better, especially once you get off the Rx pain meds. Don't forget to stay active - your stomach will be a little sore, but you need to keep walking a few times a day to exercise those muscles.

I am with the others - I would rather be stuck in a WDW resort recuperating than in my own bed. Take others suggestions for sure.

Since my surgery 4 years ago (along with many other people I know), food goes straight through, so finding a restroom very quickly is a good thing:thumbsup2.

Really? From the moment I had the surgery, I was 100% better. Had it done outpatient about about 7 am and was walking out of the hospital at noon. I sent my husband for a cheeseburger, fries and malt to "test" my system. Only ate part of it because I couldn't eat that much, but all was well. No GB attack! I've had no problems at all eating since my surgery 5 1/2 years ago. No problem with eating fats or needing a bathroom nearby. I'd be unhappy if my surgery had such icky side effects.

WOW!!!:worship: You are blessed!! When we go anywhere to eat, the first thing I take note of is the restroom.
