We were waiting at the airport this Sunday and got to talking with some people in line. We were discussing our vacations. One of them mentioned how 15 people in his family all went to Thanksgiving dinner at one of the DVC resort restaurants. The next day about 8 of them became violently ill with "food poisoning" symptoms. He seemed to be convinced that it was the food because it was the one common factor. Anyone else get sick?

I heard there was a pretty mean bug going around Disney. Lucky for my family that we didn't get sick this time.

I think if it was food poisoning, everyone would probably have gotten sick and not just a few of them.

It's Norovirus season, 'stomach bugs' are rampant this time of year. They're wildly contagious, and very hard to avoid - this is what causes epidemics on cruise ships every year around this time. I doubt if it was the food.

My oldest son was sick on Saturday. He couldn't get out of bed on Saturday afternoon and evening. I thought it may have been the Mickey bars, candy, chicken wings, soda at ice station cool (or whatever it is now), more candy, more Mickey bars, popcorn, anything he could find that was edible and not nailed down to the Boardwalk, his daily visit to the Boardwalk Bakery, more Mickey bars, etc.......

But I suppose it could have been a bug.;)

Note to self: be sure to pack the lysol spray this trip! :teeth:

:rotfl: So true, I'm not discounting the OP's version but it's amazing the number of people who abuse their stomachs on vacation and then say they had food poisoning.
Food poisoning is not common...stomach bugs and lack of common sense are.

two weeks ago, after dinner one night at home , we had carry out, three out of us four came down with flu signs or food poison. the next day DD & DH still have the flu signs but mild, i had them the worst. Dizzy, neck, shoulder pain, naussa, tired. It lasted 5 days. You would wake up great and as the day progressed, the signs would start coming back. I had to take DDOG to the vet and the vet doc had the same flu signs, it was funny because she said the same thing, they thought it was food poison.

What kind of parent are you? You can't let your son do that at WDW without conditioning first. I suggest you work with him at least a week out before your next trip in order to allow his body time to adjust to the shock of all that nutrition. To just do that "cold turkey" is cruel and unusual.

I thought I had a stomach bug one morning but when tracing my steps from the previous night realized it was probably the four or five pints of Bass at the Rose and Crown!

We were at home during Thanksgiving and quite a few members of my family were sick the afternoon and the next day, same symptoms, must just be something going around.

Excellent point. Now if I could only find Mickey Bars and Boardwalk ESPN wings in upstate New York we'd be all set. I guess like some people break in new sneakers, we should break in our digestive systems.;)

Regarding some in the party not getting sick:

I like the buffet at FW. But every single time I give it a try I get sick. I noticed the pattern after a few times. Still pushed it (cause I love to buy one "takeout version" to share and eat by the water) and still got sick. My partner doesn't get sick there.

A health care worker told me that it completely makes sense when one becomes ill and others do not. For instance, the same thing used to happen at a lower-priced Indian restaurant at home. I would get sick. I eat Indian all the time. And love it. Just not this place. My partner wouldn't get sick. She (HCW) said, "sometimes that happens when they use an inexpensive oil...bothers some of us...not others".

So many variables. I love to eat at FW. Atmosphere, peaceful, great staff, great price. But I can't.

We were home too and I got sick that night and had the same symptoms (still fighting it off today).

Ditto your thoughts, something is definitely going around.
