Can't fit Hollywood Brown Derby in this next trip, but would love a piece of grapefruit cake.

Anyone ask Starring Rolls lately? Do they still go get you a piece from the restaurant?

Can't answer your question but just had a slice of that delicious cake last week to celebrate my birthday at The Hollywood Brown Derby. Hmmmmmmmm delish!

Good luck on your quest for Grapefruit cake!!!

I got a piece of grapefruit cake in December at Starring Rolls-it was about 6 pm-I didn't see any so I asked, and the girl said "I would have to go get it"..then dead air, so I asked "would that be a problem?"LOL-she just kinda looked at me like maybe I would go away, but she did go to get it-I ate 1/2 for a snack back at the hotel, and the rest for breakfast the next morning-I really wanted it, so if you do, be firm..lol

Thanks! I'd never let a lil ol' dead air stop me from eating grapefruit cake. And it'd be cheaper than dragging the whole family to Brown Derby just so I could eat that dang cake!

I would even be so nice as to let the CM know I was looking for a piece of cake "to go" and will stop back for it at a designated time!

No, not that item, but my wife had a turnover last weekend and got very ill immediately afterward. :(

Really? Or are you joking? I never can tell with you! But if she really did get sick, that's awful. Bad food is no fun. Nope, no fun at all! I hope you reported it back to Starring Rolls.

They did last July for us. They were more than happy to get it for us after I asked if they had it anymore.

Sorry my humor is so obtuse but this sadly, was true. I'm sure she didn't report it...Kind of hard when your biggest concern is making sure you know where the next restroom is! :crazy2:

I am learning all sorts of useful things from Harambe this weekend! :)

I have always wanted to try the grapefruit cake without having an entire meal at Brown Derby. We will absolutely have to ask at Starring Rolls next time. And we will avoid the turnovers!

and have never been able to get myself a piece of CAKE!!!! Everytime we remember and we go to Starring Rolls they say they are out or it is to late and they are closed!!! I am going to go first thing when we get to the park and if they don't have any I am going to sleep on the floor until the next morning when they get more!!! I really want to try this CAKE!!!

What is Starring Roll? A nearby snack/bakery area? :confused3
Sounds like a plan!

Starring Rolls is a small outdoor cafe attached to the Brown Derby restaurant in the Studios. It's at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset. It serves sandwiches, drinks, and pastries.

I haven't had the grapefruit cake, but for Christmas last year, I got a cookbook entitled "Cooking with Disney and the Disney Chefs". I really wanted this cookbook because they have recipes from some of the most popular foods from Disney restaurants. The recipe for the Grapefruit cake is in this book. If you would like the recipe, I would be more than happy to give it to you so you can make it at home. It doesn't seem too difficult. The recipes are awesome! I made the key lime pie from Olivia's cafe and it is awesome and very simple. Just let me know.

Could a person even go to HBD and just ask to buy a piece of cake to go?
This is what I had planned to do.

Thank you, I'll be stopping by after Prime Time Cafe!

This is what I had planned to do.

I tried this tactic last November. I stopped in at around 5pm, during a quiet period and asked if I could buy a slice to go. I was sent on my way with not a crumb. The people at the podium said the cake was only for restaurant customers.

I had also tried Starring Rolls on this day, but came up empty handed there too. The people behind the counter seemed surprised I had even asked for the cake there.

I'm going back in May, and for this trip I have a reservation to the Brown Derby in hand.

I hope you have better luck!

Okay, AnnB. I'll be Fed-Exing you a lovely tupperware container. Big enough for two pieces. Pack them nicely in your suitcase. Thank you!
