DH has a possible job relocation there. Anyone from there who can tell me anything? How are the schools? What is the weather like? Will there be a lot for kids to do? How are the medical facilities? DS has a heart defect, so we would need a good pediatric cardiologist.

From what I've found on the web, it looks to be a nice place with a lower cost of living.

For me the best plus is it takes off 10 hours from a trip to WDW. :)

Thanks and pixiedust to you all. :) :)

I don't live there, but have been there a number of times. Yes, good medical care. UK is in Lexington, so they have the university hospital. Also have a children's hospital. Nice downtown with places to eat and shop. Large developed mall and restaurant area. Neat housing areas I used to walk through; very historic looking houses.

When a university is in town, I'd bet their schools are very good, although I have not investigated the public system.

It is large enough to have everything you'd ever need, but very easy to get around in and to find places quickly. Beautiful area...hourse farms with the gorgeous barns and long white fences, just like you'd see in a movie. Just a quick drive out of town and you'll be in the rolling hills with lovely geography.

I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers that live close to Lexington. We've visited at times, it is a really pretty area. The horse farms and countryside are just like the pictures you see of them. Weather seems to be okay, not too hot in the summer but not bad winters either.

I'm not sure of all the reasons but my nephew that has multiple disabilities goes to Louisville for many of his health care needs. I know they've mentioned him going to a neuroligist there and he's been hospitalized there. It is only 50 miles so not a major disadvantage, and it could be that the Dr they want to see is there instead of Lexington.

The schools aren't rated great. I think it probably varies some but I don't think any of my relatives there have ever raved about the schools and my SIL homeschools. They all live in smaller towns outside of Lexington, Versailles & Lawrenceburg.

I don't live there now, but I did. I went to college down there for two years (Asbury College in Wilmore which is right outside of Lex). I also have family down there, and was just there for my nephews' graduations (twins).

Anyway, I think you'll enjoy it. The schools are pretty good, and there's several choices in Lexington including a really good magnet (sp?) school. It's a beautiful area, and the people are really friendly. It's a melting pot, and doesn't necessarily have that Southern feel (besides the accents :) ). The weather is HUMID in the summer.... actually, it's somewhat humid all the time. Doesn't get too cold too often (but this is coming from a Minnesotan), but it's kind of a wet cold when it does. I don't know, it's a different culture down there than here, but I enjoyed the time I spent there.
I'm sure a native Kentuckian can fill you in a little more, but that's my experience.
