Anyone from Jacksonville, IL??

DH and I will be spending a Friday/Saturday in late November in Jacksonville watching basketball. We will have most of the day on Saturday to roam.... so is there anything "not to miss" in this area??

I went to college in Jacksonville, but the pleaces I went, aren't where you would want to go as an adult.

I would suggest you head over to Springfield (30 minutes on interstate 72) for the Lincoln sites.

We have a new Lincoln Museum that is amazing, the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned, his law office, the depot where he gave his famous going away speech, etc.

If I remember correctly, there is a famous Underground Railroad location in Jacksonville, but I am not sure if it is always open, or just during local events.

We had googled a bit and found the Lincoln stuff.... that will probably be what we do unless the weather is iffy then we might just stay put in Jacksonville.

We have already checked out the chain places to eat.... Applebees... McD's.... Taco Bell.....

Are there any local places that are not to miss for a meal? We are very informal.... burger and fries type of people... nothing fancy.

I grew up in J'ville and in all honesty, there's not a lot to do there, especially in November. I second the suggestion to head over to Springfield. The Lincoln Museum is INCREDIBLE. You can also visit Lincoln's home and his tomb. That will take up your free time on Saturday.
Or if you don't want to do that, you can go to White Oaks Mall in Springfield.

One other thought if you don't mind a drive. Head over to Hannibal, Missouri. I took my DD10 there when visiting my family recently. Went to Mark Twain's Cave and explored downtown Hannibal where we went in some of the Mark Twain sites/museum-type stuff. It was a lot of fune. It's all easily doable in one day with about an hour's drive from Jacksonville.

Hopefully we will be able to do a little of both.... shopping and the Lincoln things. Plenty to fill the day.
