DH and I are moving back to the area. We used to live there before we were big Disney nuts. Anyway, I noticed that the closest airport, Greenville/Spartangburg, does not have any no-frills carriers like SW or Air Tran. Can you ever find good airfare prices out of their on Delta or the other carriers?

But then I wonder if maybe the drive wouldn't be that bad? :confused3

We have done a spur of the moment trip a time or two and I must admit that living so close to two major airports (Philly and BWI) seems to have it's advantages. :cloud9:

So, if you live in that area what do you do?

No one lives in these areas? :confused3

That's a bummer. I was hoping to get some insight. :guilty:

FortheLoveofDisney-I live in upstate SC, not exactly the area you are asking about, but close! I have NOT found a lot of luck with getting discount airfare because there isn't a lowfare carrier. My primary airport is Charlotte, but I also search Columbia, Florence,Greensboro, and Greenville/Spartanburg. I have found that the fares run pretty high compared to a lot of the deals I see people getting on this board. Best option is to have a service maybe like travelocity where you use their notification system when fares drop significantly from your airport of choice. As far as the drive, when I was younger, my parents always drove. My GF and I will be going soon, and it's the first time that we will be attempting the drive. I think it should be fairly painless, but I don't mind driving/riding. It's going to be 9-10 hours for us. Hope this helped some!! :goodvibes

I live in Myrtle Beach and we have always driven. My husband had to fly once for a meet and it took him just as it does to fly with connecting flights and wait times. It's an easy drive from here about 9 hours.

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

I don't know of all of the airports down that way. I only knew of Greenville/Spartanburg and of course Atlanta as an option. I think that's about 2 hours away.

quietgirll, you say their are airports in Columbia, Florence,Greensboro also? I'll have to look into those. :thumbsup2

This is what my DH was saying. That you'd have to figure out all of the times "waiting". How long does it take to get to the airport? Of course most want you there 1.5-2 hours early then the flight, plust the flight time, add in how long it takes you to get to your luggage at MCO and to some type of transportation (this takes at least an hour) and we might find that it's just as quick to drive.

Thanks again for giving me some ideas. :wave2:

We live in Greenville (actually the border of greenvilles and simpsonville). We always drive (2 to 3 times a year.) It's not a bad drive, about 8 to 9 hours. We usually leave fri afternoon and drive to Daytona or wherever we get tired. Pick a days inn and then drive the last 2 hours sat morning. We usually spend a half day at the parks or swim the following Sat, then drive home ( getting in around 2 or 3 am.) When you consider needing to be at the airport early and any flight delays, and getting to Disney, flying just isn't worth it to us.

My inlaws live in Pickens, SC. They always drive down and meet us at WDW. We live in Pittsburgh. I think the drive is about 8 hours for them. They don't mind it and would rather drive over paying to fly. Another advantage to them driving is that they bring all of the groceries we need.

Disney4Fun, it's a small world. I used to work at the Pickens Sentinel. They've offered me my job back (from 8 years ago) if I'll come back down. :teeth:

Thank you for your responses. I guess I just go spoiled with flying but driving could be better for many reasons. For one, we'd have our own car. Two, we would save money on gas and three, we could bring our groceries with us and not have to take away time for a grocery run when we get down there.

Thanks again for responding! :wave2:

FortheLoveofDisney- I know exactly what you mean about flying vs. driving! It just seems so much easier to hop on a plane and BE in florida, than the idea of actually driving there!! Like you, I've just gotten spoiled!! But, I'm hoping after this trip in September, I will feel like it's a pretty nice drive down!! I'm looking forward to having a car if we WANT to go anywhere, altho I really look forward to NOT driving while we are there!

:moped: I live in Charleston, SC, and it is just about a 6 hour drive, so we usually drive. We also do not have low cost air carriers in Charleston, so for the best rates we have to check Myrtle Beach and Savannah.

For Greenville, you are over 8 hours from Orlando (based on a quickie Mapquest search). Your are about equally as far from Charlotte as Columbia. Charlotte is a hub and I am willing to bet it is your best choice for low prices.

Several times, we have driven from Charleston to Charlotte to get a much, much better deal. Should be a little more than an hour and a half for you depending on where you will be living.

Good luck with your planning!
