I am looking for a nice small town to raise a young family.
Do you know of any??
Good schools
Low Crime

We live in Bremen, GA. It is a small quiet town with schools ranked at about 11th in the state. A third of the school population pays to come here from out of district. The interstate is about 4 miles from my house but there is not much develpment. When I say that, I mean around the interstate is where you find the retail/restaurant establishments. We do not have many at all, but the mall is a thirty minute drive on the interstate. So we are in a quiet area but can get to things with a fairly short drive. The interstate is I-20. It is not huge, when it gets to our area it is only two lanes going in each direction. Anyway, we love living here. The rest of our families live 17 miles south of us in Carrollton, GA, again that is nice too. Just not as nice as Bremen.

Wish you the best in looking for a place to live!

NW of Atlanta--Kennesaw GA

Homes are holding their value and both Family Circle and Parents Magazone have named it a top ten city to raise a family.

The city of Kennesaw was selected by Family Circle magazine as one of the nation's "10 best towns for families". The article appears in the magazine's August 2007 edition. The publication announced the results of its search to identify the best communities across the country that combine big-city opportunities with suburban charm, a blend of affordable housing, good jobs, top-rated public schools (part of the Cobb County School District), wide-open spaces, and a lot less stress.

Jefferson is about 50 miles north of Atlanta up I-85. The schools are good. It's not considered metro Atlanta but still close enough to get to sporting events and concerts and shopping. Athens is about 30 minutes to the east (where UGA is located). It is rural enough to not have the crazy Atlanta traffic but we still have grocery stores and all of the other conveniences. We really enjoy living here. The best part is it is only 8 hours to WDW, and that is with lunch and potty breaks.

It is really so hard to tell, without talking to people who actually live somewhere.
Are the people of Bremen open to new people especially from the north?
Or is it a tight, closed community?
So far it looks very nice, I am checking out the schools

I live in Madison, Ga. It is very small. It is historical. It was also ranked on the kist of #1 small towns in the USA. My kids are both in the public school system here and I love the schools here. It is a great place to raise kids. It is on I-20 East of Atlanta.

I can't see it being an issue being from the North. I think you would fit in just fine. Another thing I thought is what are your spiritual needs. What kind of church will you be looking for? If that is not a need then disregard the post. I will any questions that you may have.

Ok I have to chime in my vote for Roswell, Ga. Where I live it is actually called East Cobb. Our school district rates in the top of the state. Tritt Elementary, Hightower Middle and Pope High. We have a small town feel but, we are close to the city. ( 30 Minutes ) and I have only found about 2 people who are actually locals.

I live in South Ga, Fitzgerald. Small town, no malls or anything like it. Wal-Mart is our big draw. Good schools, good people. We're 20 miles from the interstate and the closest "big town" is Albany or Valdosta, about an hour away both. Might want to check out some towns down here, too.

I'm in Savannah, Ga. and my whole family was born and raised here (one of my sisters has since moved up to Roswell). We are a medium sized city I guess, not as big as Atlanta, but not as small as some of the other towns close by. I can't answer to the public schools as my daughter is in Catholic school, but we have a great historic district, and we have the ocean nearby as well. My house is about 10 minutes from both! There are also a lot of smaller towns about 30 to 45 minutes away that are really growing right now, including Richmond Hill, Rincon, Pooler and Springfield. There are a lot of folks moving down to this area from up north, housing is less expensive here than in Atlanta, though I'm not sure about the surrounding areas. Good luck!

Another vote for Roswell, GA! I've lived here for 3 1/2 years (originally from Kansas) and I love it. It has a small town feel, but you're still close enough to everything that you don't feel disconnected from anything. We've got a great school system and every one here is very friendly.

Hope you find something that fits what you're looking for! :goodvibes

You would be hard pressed to go wrong with the East Cobb/Roswell/Alpharetta/John's Creek area. All are on the 'good' side of the city and being more affluent, affords us better schools. No place here is crime free, but it is much better than other parts of the city.

I was born and raised in Roswell and my sister and her family still live there. I loved growing up there and it has always been very open to diversity. The elementary school in my sisters district isn't that great, though, so they go to private school. But, I do know there are some great public schools.
