Hi all,

I'm registered for Leakycon and was wondering if any other Disers are going also.

I'll be there. Can't wait.:cool1:

donaldduck352-LeakyCon is a Harry Potter fan convention being held this upcoming July 13th-17th at Universal Orlando. It's a huge event that will draw well over a thousand plus Potter fans(already over 900 are registered to attend), it includes concerts, events such as a formal charity ball, a leaving feast, galleries, keynote speakers ect. It also will have an exclusive event held inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Where is this located? And what is it?

Yeah another Leaky DISer :wizard::wizard:

I'm trying to find friends to take with me since the hotels are so expensive. Nice to know others will be there.

I'm looking forward to the ball and the park event. SQUEEE!!!!

Has anyone been to one of these events in the past?

Sounds like fun, but I'm not so sure about Orlando in July.

I've been to a few Potter conventions such as Infinitus, Silver Moon, LeakyCon ect and they are lot of fun if you are a big fan of the franchise.

Most of the events will take place indoors at the hotel convention center, but there will of course be outdoor events such as those that take place at the WWoHP. I was at the WWoHP this past July both for a regular vacation and for the Infinitus conference, and it was fine. Hot...yes, crowded...yes but doable. And like I said, most of the convention activities will take place at the hotel, not at the park.

Yeah thanks filling everyone in fairy :wizard: I can't wait!!!

bumping...anyone else going? I'm looking for others to chat it up with at the con since I may be going alone. :guilty::sad1:

Many months after the OP, but I am going! I am new to DIS but have signed up since Aug or Sept to go to LeakyCon. I'm going with two friends...we're not staying on-property, but rather renting a condo so that we can escape the crowds and madness sometimes.

I've never been to a con before and get slightly claustrophobic at times, so I'm a little worried. :sad2:

My hope is that the ability to leave and hang out by a more private pool will help with that. ;)

Hi Belle:welcome:

Condo is a great idea. I figure you must be driving there so you'll have wheels to escape with. I'm flying so no wheels more than likely. The hotel has no discounts either which is annoying. I might just stay one night on site and then spend the rest at the Hampton down the road...not sure yet.

That was my problem with staying on-property. We're driving in from ATL and so want to arrive the day before and leave the day after. But that means 6 nights x $125-$175 = way more than my little teacher's budget can afford, even split three ways. But the condo that we're renting is less than $500 for the whole time, including cleaning fees, etc.

Having taken a taxi from DD back to a house we rented with my DH's parents about 5 years ago, I'd rather avoid having to do that again if possible. So we'll just take turns being certain that one of us can get us back each night. :rotfl:

Have you ever been to a con before?

Right now the best rate I can get is 269 a night. :scared1: Way more than my teacher's budget too. :teacher:I'm probably going to end up at the Hampton Inn again. It's close enough to walk when it's early am and there is a free shuttle for evenings. I think I can take a cab after the really late stuff if I need too.
That's great that you have buddies going with you. I've been trying to find some but none can make it. I've never been to a con before. I'm excited but a little nervous that I will be surrounded by teenagers. ;)

i will be staying at RPR from the 16th, but not going to Leakycon.
Did enquire about some of the concerts and buying separate tickets for them, but you had to pay for the whole thing.

they have some day passes out there. So you could buy it for just one of the concert days and use it for that.

What age do you teach? I teach HS so the idea of being surrounded by teenagers don't bother me...just being surrounded in general. :)

Honestly, when I first mentioned it to my friends, I didn't think they were serious when they said they would go. But both of them signed up shortly after I did, and helped pick out the condo. I'm hoping maybe one night to go over to Downtown Disney to get my Disney fix while I'm there. ;)

Must have a look when we are there, they where for DD.
I emailed Leakycon, about it a while back, and they told me there was nothing available, and i would have to buy the Pass for the convention.
Will ask when we are there if there is anything available to go to the concerts in the afternoon or evening.

Thanks for that

YW :cutie:

good luck with getting a pass. There website says they 60 dollars and include programming. I assume that includes the Wrock since there is no extra charge to full conference attendees.

thanks, not sure i would pay $60 for the concerts, but will see what is available when there.
Maybe see some of you guys around the pool area:thumbsup2

Im going! :cool1: I'll be there from the 12-17 trying to fit anything & everything into my schedule! This will be my first ever con, & I will be attending all the con stuff by myself. So I would love to make a few new friend before I get there. I am way past my teen years, so you will not be the only one. From everything I read, thre should be a good mixture of ages.
I am so excited I can't stand it!!!

Welcome fellow muggle. I'm glad I'm not the only solo traveler. Still wish I could find a discount for the hotel. I really would like to stay onsite.
