for the same trip? I know with some of the airlines (JetBlue, Southwest, etc) there is no price difference if you only book one way. Right now, I can get really good deals on our flight to Orlando on one airline and our flight home on another airline. With a family of 5, the difference is substantial. I can't really think of a downside but we don't fly that often. Would it be any trouble really? Thanks!

Just be aware that one way tickets will trigger an extra security screening. Just allow extra time for that and prepare the kids and you will be fine.

Hey, the price is right! Since it is saving you a lot of money, by all means do the 2 one-ways. Yeah, it will mean a little bit more security screening, but no big deal.

Doesn't apply to you, splitting your flights but it may make it harder to earn enough FF miles/credits for a free flight.

What two airlines are we talking about. Sometimes flying on two airlines will trigger extra security but other times since they are code share partners then it still is considered rountrip partners.

Examples of Code Share partners

Northwest/Continental/Delta
US Air/United

I'm not sure that there is really any "extra security" any more. I know right after 9/11, there would be certain individuals that were pulled over right before boarding and had their carry-on baggage thoroughly searched, but they're no longer doing this, so I don't know what "extra security" might be. My point is that I don't think I would let this keep me from booking one-way tickets if they're cheaper.

Book the one-ways on the different airlines and save the money!

There is extra screening at the security checkpoint. I speak from experience since my companies travel agency is fond of booking one way tickets.

They do look through your suitcase, wand you, take off your shoes if you haven't already. They may also wand your laptop if you are carrying one.

The end of August will be our first time flying two different airlines. We are going with Southwest Airlines down to Orlando and we are flying back with Continental Airlines. Southwest did not have our return flight down to $49 one-way...
In October we are doing the same thing for Las Vegas. We liked Southwest times going but the return times were terrible so we went with Continental Airlines on the way back!
Should be interesting to see how it goes!
Good Luck,Debbie
