We have always flown with Virgin or BA but are considering First Choice for our next trip as they fly from a local airport..................how does their version of premium economy compare to Virgin? What is the food/entertainment like?

We have also never flown into Stanford.......how long will it take us to drive to WDW from there? Is it quicker to get through customs and get the car than at the International Airport!!?

We flew First Choice from Manchester to Sanford last year, in Star Class Premier.

The seats were very comfortable, good legroom, and the on-demand seat-back entertainment system was the best I've experienced, Virgin included. Food was okay, but took forever to be served - there are far too many people in the cabin for them to serve each course separately.

First Choice don't allow you to choose your seat when you book, so you don't know what you're getting until you check in - and it doesn't make any difference how early you check in because the allocation is all done beforehand. Star Class Premier supposedly includes sitting together. Flying out we were together, in one of the sets of 2 seats. Flying home we were one behind the other, in middle aisle seats. When we pointed out that we'd paid to sit together, we were told that one behind the other counts!

Although we thought the Star Class Premier was a good product, we wouldn't fly with them again. Mostly because it really is a 'holiday' flight, with mainly families, and we found it incredibly noisy even in the separate cabin. Not being able to choose your seat is a big problem for us too - we're used to picking our seat when we book online. And there is also the concern of it being a charter flight, so if there's a problem then there's no chance of being moved to another flight or another airline as with a scheduled flight.

The drive from Sanford to WDW takes about an hour, depending on traffic. It's a good airport to fly into because there are fewer people arriving to go through Customs and collect cars. But it's not so good to fly out of because there's a severe lack of facilities in the terminal considering you need to be there at least 3 hours before your flight, especially when compared to Orlando International.

I did write a trip report about the First Choice flight on another discussion board. If you'd like to read it, it's on holiday truths dot co dot uk - Flight Only/Airline and Airports - First Choice Q&As, p17.

We normally fly with Virgin, but in 2005, 19 of us went with first Choice when they brought out their new planes. (Don't what type as I'm not a plane spotter, it had wings and an engine so thats good enough for me)

We only flew Economy, but the leg room and seats were far superior to Virgin. Entertainment was on a par with Virgin. Food, well both are passable as food.

As for Sanford, yes you do get through Customs and Car Hire quicker but its an extra 45 mins drive. My only problem with Sanford Airport other than the extra travel time is the lack of things to do when you book in for the return flight.

We flew with First Choice last month - cheaper AND more convenient UK airport for us than the scheduled flights. :)

We were in the economy cabin and were glad we hadn't paid extra for the premium, as it didn't look much different in layout, legroom, etc., and the food we had in economy was fine (I don't get on a plane for a gourmet meal; as long as it's edible, I'm happy). I was a little disappointed with the entertainment selection in economy compared with premium, but then discovered we could upgrade to the same on demand system as in premium for £5 each - bargain!

The economy seats and legroom were better than Virgin's / BA's, and I liked the aircraft 2-3-2 layout better than the usual Virgin / BA 3-4-3.

I agree with what's already been said about Sanford's facilities being more limited than Orlando International's, but we prefer Sanford because it's so much smaller and more manageable, and I'd rather spend an extra 30 minutes on the road than standing in line waiting for immigration/baggage/car rental at International. (I do miss the inter-terminal monorail at International though ;) )

I wish there were Orlando flights available all year from our regional airports (they're not time-tabled for the winter months) and I would gladly pay even a bit extra to avoid the Gatwick trip. We'll definitely be hoping to fly with First Choice again :thumbsup2

Travelled both Virgin Econ and First Choice Star Class Prem.

To be honest i only Fly Virgin for the airmiles.

I did prefer First Choice, and busy looking at booking with them for Next Aug 08.

:goodvibes We loved our experience with First Choice in Star Class Premiere the service was a vast improvement over previous ones (admittedly economy seats) with My Travel. The seats are much bigger lots more leg room, better value for money than Virgin:thumbsup2
:goodvibes Wonderful in-flight entertainment and games on the bigger seat back tvs for those who did not have the tvs they gave personal dvd players for the duration of the flight and the headphones were better too.
:goodvibes The food was really tasty and fresh served on proper china with real cutlery.
We are watching our budget this year so not going for the extra legroom or wider seats just sticking with ecomomy flights again and First Choice couldn't match Virgin's price for us this time.

Thank you for all the great replies, you guys have been so helpful! I have a couple more questions!!! My husband is worried about it being a charter flight, with us having had horrible experiences with long delays. Has anyone expererinced delays with First Choice?!!
Also, how does the price compare with Virgin? Is it a lot cheaper per person?

Thanks!
Debsx

I think the price with First Choice was around £129-£159 per person return (kids may have been cheaper) check their website it will be on there somewhere so significantly cheaper than virgin's premuim economy seats which are only priced one way:scared1: Never been delayed more than 10 mins with First Choice going and they were bang on time on the return flights :cloudnine:
BTW Sanford is really straight forward to get through.. not anywhere near as complicated as MCO. You leave the plane, go through customs, collect your luggage and out the front doors across the zebra crossing to the builing and find the welcome centre where you'll find the reps desks, car hire , vending machines and the buses to the hotels.
