Going to GT for parent's weekend in September. Looking for a hotel for family of 4 within a 10 min drive of GT. The hotels I found less than 1 mile all have parking fees of $20/night. Can those familiar tell what areas I could look in that meet the criteria of 10 min drive? Really would like free breakfast and parking. Thanks

I live outside of Atlanta. You will pay for parking in that area everywhere. I personally wouldn't leave my car outside that area unless in a parking garage. 10 minutes isn't much of a radius. That could be a 1/2 mile or less from the school with traffic.

10 minutes in downtown ATL won't be very far! I agree with a PP though that parking in downtown ATL would be best if it was in a secured garage. I would stay in a chain hotel on the northern side of town. Don't go south.

Staying on the south side is fine if you are staying at the airport area or across from Turner Field. I have stayed in this area many times since moving from GA.

As to parking you will pay for parking when staying downtown. The Melia Atlanta has rooms for around $109 a night and is close to GT and the Marta station. Another one you might want to try is Hotel Midtown Atlanta. It isn't too far from GT either.

what about residence inn atlanta midtown? 101 plus free breakfast

Masters Swimming had their annual Nationals at Tech in 2010. Several swimmers stayed at this hotel and liked it. Just be careful around Tech. Some areas are better than others.

I would recommend staying a little farther north near the Cumberland mall area. There are tons of hotels in the area and it is a very quick and easy drive to campus. I would recommend this over staying downtown as you will not have to worry about parking at your hotel or navigating downtown as much. This will also especially be helpful on gameday if you are going to be attending as traffic downtown can be horrible!

Hyatt Place Atlanta is pleased to offer Georgia Tech alumni, friends and family a discounted rate of $85 per night Friday-Saturday and $115 per night Sunday-Thursday. These discounted rates include parking, breakfast, and internet. Property amenities include a free shuttle within 2 miles (including MARTA & Lenox/Phipps Malls), fresh food available 24/7, fitness center, and heated outdoor pool.

WOW I don't know why I didn't get these posts until now. I already decided to just stay in Buckhead. Not far up the interstate. We are staying at Homewood suites because we always find those to be a great family hotel.
