Anyone familiar with Minecraft?

My son wants Minecraft for Christmas which kind of confused me since he already plays it. I guess he plays an outdated free version, though. When I go to the site, it says it is $26.99 but I don't know what that will get him. Is that per month, per year or a one time fee? It that all he will need?

My kids downloaded it onto our laptop. It's a one time fee to get the download, and they love creating different worlds.

there is also an ipod app that is similar- eden world builder.

The $26.99 will give him the full game with updates. no monthly charge, and have access to all of the mods people make (make tasks easier, thinngs look different), the XBOX 360 version is due out soon but I don't know when and what it will be like.

Both of my kids love playing it. It was less expensive when we bought it but I can say I think we've gotten our money's worth. I like that it's a one time fee.

Thanks for the info! Definitely cheaper than his PS3 games and he has always enjoyed playing the free version. I never knew there was a paid version until he said something about it today.
