My DD18 and a friend are taking the train into NYC this weekend to see a show....I know the terminal has several street exits so which one should she use so that she is headed toward the theater district?

42nd Street. Once on 42nd Street turn right & keep walking until she hits Broadway (about 3-4 Avenues). She will be right in the heart of Times Square. HTH!

Google Maps has a great "walking" option that I use when we head into the city.

A good rule of thumb would be to head RIGHT when in Grand Central and use any exit toward the right. You need to head WEST to get to the theater district crossing first Madison, then 5th Ave, then 6th Ave (Avenue of the Americas) and keep going depending on the cross street of the theater they are going too.

Yes, go west, young man (woman), go west.

There are many entrances and levels, and for a first-timer, it may be difficult to get oriented.

Perhaps the easiest way to do so would be to go to the main hall, the one that basically is about the size of a city block, and has the beautiful vaulted ceiling. (Stop for a minute to admire the ceiling!) There is an info stand in the middle. The entrance to some of the tracks is to your north, and a long row of ticket counters is to your south. Go past the ticket counters and then up to street level, which will be 42nd Street.

(By the way, the show is a Broadway show, isn't it, and not off-Broadway? Off-Broadway shows can be scattered around Manhattan. Why not have DD pick up a cheap map just in case?)

I prefer the VANDERBELT exit to 42nd St. It's shorter, plus you're headed in the right direction. When you're in the Main Lobby, go up the Grand Staircase (next to the Oyster Bar).

Grand Central is on the East side, the theatre district is on the West side. I would take the shuttle to Times Square, it will put them right in the middle of the theatre district.
