Anyone every teach GED classes?

I'm thinking of applying for a job teaching GED classes at my local community college. How are the students? Are they there willingly? Are they lazy, not wanting to do work? I have no idea what to expect.

Currently I teach sixth-grade (Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies). This coming school year I'll be teaching first grade because of budget issues (they are eliminating positions/moving teachers around). To be honest, I've been thinking about getting into teaching at the college level and I thought this would be good experience to see if I enjoy it (I prefer older kids over younger). To teach GED classes you only need a Master's degree, which I have (MLS).

Any thoughts?

I did and loved it! Most of the students were so eager and willing to learn and worked so hard. The age ranges were anywhere from 16 to a woman in her 70s.

I did, however, have two students who were the bane of my existence. Where I live, in order to receive welfare benefits the recipient had to do either volunteer work or take classes. This couple had absolutely no desire to be in the class. The female at least sat quietly and pretended to work, but the male (a guy in his 30s) behaved worse than any middle school student I'd ever seen. He argued and insulted me and other students, was late, constantly took cigarette breaks, and just generally made my life a living hell. I refused to sign off on his hours when he fudged them. He was so disruptive and there was nothing I could do about it.

I would do that job again in a heartbeat, but just be aware that you can end up with behavior problems in adults just like you can with kids!
