I am looking to join a gym..I was a Lifestyles member a long time ago, but its honestly too expensive right now..and Planet Fitness looks nice, but there isnt a lot of info on the website itself, besides price..

Anyone have any personal experience?

Mine is pretty nice. Its just a gym though no spinning classes or anything like that. Just a gym. Treadmills and weights pretty much.

when dh and I were first together we used to go to one near us. the price was right, and it was fine for us then.

we eventually moved over to a different gym. we felt it was cleaner, had better classes, and we could afford it.

we live in a different town now and I love my current gym, but if I had to cut back I would have no problem going to the pf near me.

My entire family love the one near my house. It's very affordable ($10 buck a month pp)
the equipment is the new and a wide variety (nautilus, free weights) and tons of cardo equipment.

The downfall is that you really don't have personal trainers readily available. No class) zuumba, pilates etc)

I've belonged for a couple years and love it. Lots of machines, clean, and the hours are great. My BC/BS reimburses for gym memberships, so I go for free, but you really can't beat 10.00 per month.

The only downfall I had with Planet Fitness was that they let 13 year olds join so it was overrun with teenagers after school-- the baseball team, cheerleaders etc....NOT a fun time to be there!!!!

I am in our local Planet Fitness every morning at 5 a.m. to work out. My wife and son also have memberships and go in the evening. The place is clean, the equipment is well maintained, and I never have to wait to use the equipment. I highly recommened it.

I admit that I do miss my expensive, oooh-la-la gym, but Planet Fitness is working just fine. You get access to basic equipment and a basic locker room, which is all you really need.

I do miss having a nice selection of great classes, though. I'm going to get real bored with this Planet Fitness once the novelty of $10/month wears off . I still think that's pretty cool.

yah, I trying joining a few months ago, not for me. I am a "gym rat" type and like to work out hard core (if and when I can) and they do not like that type of person in the gym, they are more lightweight type. so it depends on what you like. I am totally into free weights etc..and they just do not have the heavy equipment I like.

Yes, this, too is true. For example, I will do their circuit and I like to do some more intense stuff on the steps. But (1), they have that idiotic handle on the steps in case...what? I can't make it up the one step??? And (2), the drills I do manage to do with the step, people look at me funny. Like I'm supposed to just step up, step down, step up, step down.

I have the Black Card that allows me to go to any PF, bring a guest anytime (can be the same guest every time too), 1/2 price cooler drinks and unlimited tanning. I've been a member for a year now, but haven't been in since I had a terrible cold back in February. I've been avoiding going, though I keep paying the monthly fee ($20). I'll probably go back once the summer ends and the weather turns cooler.

I usually only go for the treadmills, but they also have ellipticals and cross-trainers, and equipment for weight training. PF does offer personal or group training, but those sessions are typically during daytime hours, before 6 pm.

I joined a PF when it first opened in my area and was thrilled with it. But then I noticed the equiptment was often broken, different pieces all the time. Work Out World (WOW) opened a bit further from me, but they have classes and daycare for the same price. I'm loving WOW even if I don't get there as often as I should.

We have gone to really expensive gyms over the years and PF is fine. There are no "classes" tho if you are into that but for the price I think they are great. My DH doesn't like that the weights don't go as heavy as he would like as he was at one time a bodybuilder type but it's not suppose to be one of those muscle head type gyms. You get a fine workout doing the weights and cardio. You can't beat it for the price.
