Anyone ever use DVC to book Tokyo Disney or at least know the process?

I am not even a DVC member yet. I went through closing(via resale) but don't have my membership number yet. I'm hoping to book a trip to Tokyo Disney and to stay in one fo the Disney DVC hotels there. I heard the process isn't quite as easy as booking in WDW. Can anyone explain how the process works?

The following are taken from the DVC website:

Tokyo Disney Resort®
Book your vacation from 6 months to 14 days in advance.

Allow up to 5 days for a response for reservation requests at Hong Kong Disneyland® Resort hotels and Tokyo Disney Resort® hotels.

With DVC resorts they can provide instant feedback over the phone. For Tokyo Disney they will let you know within 5 days whether you got the room or not. If not, I believe they will let you know if there is some other options if you made minor adjustments.

I am trying to plan a trip to Paris for next summer & wanted to use our points to stay at DLP. The problem is that they really aren't DVC properties & the resorts outside of the US are not completely Disney owned. They have outside owners & Disney is like a partner or something so they all have different rules & they negotiate different things from year to year. They all take a LOT of points and I don't know about Tokyo but in Paris for example they MAKE you buy "length of stay" park tickets which makes them an even worse value. For example we want to spend 4 nights at DLP with 2 park days and 2 days for sightseeing - well, they will FORCE US to buy a 5 day park pass in order to stay there. They have a 2 night / 3 day minimum. But they do that on their cash packages too. They also don't release rooms for booking until 4-6 months out. They just don't operate the same way and you can't plan as far out. Who knows how Tokyo works. I hope for your sake better than Paris!!!

I think you're going to have to wait just a few days until you get your member number then call MS and ask some more questions about how Tokyo works (specifically). The other variable is that they can change these rules from year to year. So just because it worked one way for someone 2 years ago doesn't mean it will work the same NOW. Paris didn't USED to be like this either. I think it changed in 2009 maybe.:confused3

Someone told me that they book the room for you if it's available. So I'm curious as to what the cancellation policy is. I guess I can try member services once I'm a member. Doesn't seem as cut and dry as booking in WDW. I'ts tricky because I have a free flight to get there, but not all dates are available. So have to try and find a date that works for the flight and hotel. A bit harder when you don't get an instant reply and have to wait 5 days. Oh well.

Cancellation policy is on the member website. For Tokyo:
Tokyo Disney Resort®

•Cancelling a reservation 16 or more days before check-in date:
All Reservation Points will be returned to the Use Year in which the reservation falls.*

•Cancelling a reservation 15 or less days before check-in date:
All Reservation Points will be forfeited.

* Please Note:

•A change to a reservation is considered a cancellation and rebooking. Any change to a The Disney Collection reservation (with the exception of the Disneyland Resort in California) requires an additional non-refundable $95 transaction fee. If payment is not received at the time of confirmation, Disney Vacation Club reserves the right to cancel the reservation.
•One Reservation Point is equivalent to one allotted Vacation Point.
•Cancellation guidelines are subject to change without notice.
•Returned Reservation Points will be deposited in to the Use Year in which the cancelled reservation falls. Returned Reservation Points may not be used for Disney Vacation Club Resort reservations or for World Passport Collection exchanges and will expire at the end of your Use Year. Returned Reservation Points cannot be banked.

Oh wow, I didn't know they make you buy park tix too. We are thinking 4 days in Tokyo Disney as we want to see Tokyo too, and didn't plan on staying at the Disney resort for those days. I guess I'll see what MS says. Was just thinking maybe someone on here already did it and knew the routine.

Currently, only the resorts at Disneyland Paris have the ticket purchase requirement.

Cancellation policy is on the member website. For Tokyo:

So basically if I call to see if a particular week is available, I give them the date and they will book it if it's free. Then if I need to cancel I have to pay the fee. And those points can't be used for anything but Tokyo Disney(or something in that category) right? I wanted to book early in case it filled up, although maybe since they are so hard to book they don't fill up as quickly. We can't book the flight until 2 months before the trip and by then it might be sold out. I guess I'll look into a plan B. Thanks for the info. I can't access all of this info yet as I didn't get my member number. Was hoping to get a head start on researching though so thanks for all of your info!

We haven't tried booking in Tokyo but recently booked a couple of nights at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. MS asked us for dates and got back to us a couple of days later to confirm booking. Apparently MS can't see the availability, so you will be asked to give them dates. Once the availability is confirmed, you are considered "booked", and will be asked to pay a $95 fee. The points for Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel actually include admission to the park :cool1: but HK might be the only park offering that deal.

We may try to book Tokyo in a couple of years, so definitely let us know how it goes.

I booked Tokyo Disney for my son in 2009 on a real short notice. He and a friend decided to spend a few days there while they were touring Japan. They did not have to buy length of stay tickets. Member Services told me that since they could not see availability that it would take up to 5 days before they could let me know, but it was quicker than 5 days. It cost me $95, but it was an easy process. Hope you can get your stay and free air tickets coordinated. Enjoy!

I booked the Miracosta Hotel for last Nov. and did so on the phone with MS.
I was told that it appeared available and she took my credit card number telling me that I would not be charged until the reservation was finalized. I received the paper conformation within two weeks, but the reservation appeared on the DVC website within the hour. This was about 5 months out.

That was a very cost-effective use of points for me as the rooms run about $500 a night and a water view, which we had, goes for about $850. The room was nice and one of the largest we stayed in in Japan. Here are a couple of pics.

Thanks so much! This is the exact hotel we are hoping to book!

We used DVC points at the Miracosta a few years ago. It is the most beautiful Disney hotel we have ever seen!

I just wanted to add that I went to Tokyo Disneyland for a day when I was there on business. If you can't get a booking at one of the hotels, there is a train that stops right in front of the park. If I remember correctly (because this was many years ago) it was only a 30-40 ride on the train. Just offering more information.
