we are going 7/1-7/9, i hate to use 58 points for that fri and sat so i decided to go on dvc member discount and pay cash, 231 a night for the room, which is fine by me, i could have opted for a mod or even a value, but values are going for 149 (magic season) so i thought this was the best option without borrowing from next year, do not like to touch those points as we plan on 2 trips yearly.

You can do this by using the member site? What type of room are you getting?

no you have to call ms and ask for a member discount and that is for a studio that i am paying cash for

We book other resorts on weekends useing our AP room discounts.

This coming Nov I booked Fri & Sat 11/9-11 at BCV using mbr cash disc. Its the end of the Food & Wine fest and I didnt want to wait till Apr to see if I can switch from the VWL (our home resort).

We have used the member discount for our Christmas/New Years reservation at the end of this year. It would have been 146 points just for that weekend alone (1 bedroom/weekend/premier season ). This worked out well for us since any AP discount would probably not have applied during this time period, and would probably be less than the %25 that was available to us.

I was surprised when booking my vacation to find the discount available 11 months out. Needless to say I had no problem taking advantage of it !

It was explained to me that the member discount is always available as opposed to an AP or other types of discounts, discounts that are based on certain seasons and/or dates.

To the OP, yes, we've used the DVC member discount several times now usually to tack on a day at the beginning or end of our trips. We go in the slow season so we don't worry much about point usage during weekends....we prefer to just stay put in our room for the entire stay.

Isn't it great how you can flex and stretch your DVC points to your own preferences? I don't think the typical timeshare is that flexible. :)
