Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with using a chiropractor to treat a sciatica problem. My poor DH has had several episodes with sciatica flareups this year alone and is currently suffering, even though he's basically done nothing but rest for the past couple of weeks. He's done heavy duty pain reliever(tylenol w/codeine), Physical Therapy and ice/heat in the past, but trying to just not overuse it this time. My suggestion is to try my chiropractor as nothing else seems to work. Anyone used one before for sciatica???

I have battled sciatica for years. Sometimes it is so bad there is no relief. Vicodin doesn't work, or any other narcotic pain killer.

The only relief I have gotten is from epidural injections. Not a lot of fun, but better than sciatica.

DH has treated several patients with sciatica. He would definitely recommend seeing one. :)

My Mom saw one for sciatica pain and got no relief.....as Taylor said, Vicodin and all narcotics did NO GOOD. She was laid up in bed for many weeks but gradually the pain became more bearable. She is now mostly pain free but has to watch how she sits and how much activity she does.

I guess she was just lucky b/c her's became bearable after time...I'm sure most people don't have that luck.

SSB played the major league pain game with this for several years... too many... and did all the drugs, all the PT and Chiro.... and ever about a dozen (no kidding) epidurals... finally went for surgery in Jan (laminectomy), and literally walked out that night, and missed almost no work... best thing I ever did....

The chiro helped a tad, and maybe a good thing to try... just as long as root cause not too heavy...

have a bulging disc and went to one three times a week. Did not help anything except his banking account. same as other poster, had the bulge cut out, back felt better after surgery, with no pain pills, than before with them.

Hi Snoozan, I went to my chiropractor for my sciatica and it worked great. This was about 8 years ago, when the pain started, traveled straight down my leg and then I basically couldnt walk. I went to an orthopedic surgeon who wanted to do surgery but I was very afraid of it as my nephew had a laminectomy done and it didnt work and he had to have it done again after he was in so much pain. I guess everyones experiences are different. At first I went 5 times a week to my chiropractor and then it became less. But honestly it wasnt easy, it required alot of stretching and adjusments, but my Dr. is great. I wish you lived here in NY because I would recommend you to him. If I feel the need to I go in for an adjustment. But basically after my initial back problems, I lost weight and started walking 2-3 miles a day and thank goodness I feel much better. Tell your dh to run the water as hot as he can in the shower, let it hit his back and do the runners stretch every morning, you push against the wall and straighten back one leg at a time while bending the other, it really seems to help.

I have 2 hyerniated disks but not bad enough to do surgery. My only option was the epidural injections, i'll pass thanks. My husband insists a chiropractor would help but i'm to scared to go to one... don't like that neck popping jazz!

Find one that uses an activator. No neck popping noise. :)
