Has anyone stayed at this resort in Maui? Its a timeshare. Hubby is thinking about renting it for a week through someone. Not sure if its affordable since he was just browsing the site.

Would love to know if its a good place to stay.

We stayed there a few years ago. It's nice, though of course not Aulani or DVC nice. I thought the one big con was that the beach is small. The kids enjoyed the pool and slide, koi pond, mini bowling, and mini golf. Some of the units have awesome ocean views, which we were not lucky enough to get. :(

Costco, Wal-Mart, Target are all near the airport, which isn't too far. Definitely rent a car. Food budget really depends on the type of places you go to. It's certainly possible to find inexpensive places. Onos Tacos is right near the resort (walkable) and it was pretty good, but it's a food truck with outdoor bench seating. Gazebo Restaurant for breakfast or brunch is good too. It's next to Napili beach, which was great for the kids - calm with tide pools to explore.

Happy planning! :)

We stayed down the beach at the Sheraton Maui. We loved the beach and the location. We were there in early April and the water temps were fine. At least down where we were there were lots of restaurants, no necessarily in walking distance but close.

We are staying at the Westin in that area next week. We chose it because of the proximity to Lahaina, which seems to have some things to do, night life, etc. It is 45 minutes from the airport so a rental car is almost a must.

As far as the March vs June vs July, I believe summer is peak season with kids off from school. My personal choice would be March since you'd be more inclined to miss school breaks, it's still whale season and Maui is prime for whale watching, and depending on where you live, it might be a nice break from cold weather at home!

We've stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort in one of the beachfront bungalows (totally worth it to upgrade to the bungalows). It was a nice stay but my only complaint about it is that the hotel is on the north side of Black Rock so we were getting dumpy shore breaks so it was kind of dangerous to get into the water. Make sure you stay south of black rock so that the water is more calm. Rental car is a must there isn't a lot of places you can walk to.

We stayed at the Hyatt in the Kaanapali area in July. We loved that area. The resorts are about a 5 or 10 minute drive from Lahaina which is a really cute area with lots of shops, restaurants, bars etc. We had been debating between that area and the Grand Wailea resort (higher price tag), so we went to the Wailea area to check it out, and we preferred Kaanapali. It just seemed a little more laid back and at least from what we saw in Wailea (which admittedly was not much) more walkable. I don't know about that resort in particular, but that is a really fun area and we would definitely stay there again!

It was DD and my first time to Hawaii too (DH had been as a kid). We spent half our time in Aulani and half on Maui. On Maui, my absolute favorite thing was the Road to Hana-- so beautiful. Definitely worth spending a day doing that. Get a really early start because there are a ton of places to stop and wander. The Garden of Eden arboretum costs a fee, but we all felt it was well worth it- it was gorgeous. Another of my favorite stops was the Keanae Penninsula-- the waves were strong that day and I could have sat and watched them crash into the rocks all day. Be sure and buy a Road to Hana CD (there are a couple of different brands of them), it guides you through the drive (tells you went to pause it and what mile marker to push play again) and it tells you exactly were to drive/stop etc. to find the best places.
