the non-animated version with Mary Martin as Peter Pan? We just watched it tonight. What a hoot! We couldn't stop laughing. We asked for the Disney animated version but got this one instead. Oh well . . .

My mom bought that one at a garage sale one time! My youngest DD was fascinated by it - the real people acting it out in more of a playlike fashion rather than the polished kinds of movies we get today.

Wow - what a great memory! That used to be on television at least once a year - I'm dating myself, I know - back in the 60's-early 70's. The music was great! It was one of my favorites. Where did you get it? I'd love to see it again!

The Peter Pan musical with Mary Martin was my favorite movie as a kid, my mom says I memorized every line when I was 7. Which I probably did. I also highly recommend the newer version with Cathy Rigby.

I loved that movie as a child growing up! They used to play it about once a year (same thing with the Wizard of Oz) on T.V. and I would always stay home to see it! Haven't seen it in a number of years now, but it was always one of my favorites. While it didn't have all (or any) of the bells or whistles of todays technology, it had a wonderful way of allowing our imaginations soar. :goodvibes

That was the first Peter Pan I ever saw. I thought it was wonderful!

Some of us grew up on that movie with Mary Martin and were little children clapping wildly in their living rooms watching it on TV.. I had my daughters watch it one time and as I sat there sniffing, they thought I was crazy.... oh well, it is dated....but so is the original Mickey Mouse Club with Spin and Marty, the original mousekateers (Annette, Cubby, Bobby, etc) and I catch that whenever I can on TV.. It is nice to walk down memory lane occasionally.

Ah, yes, Spin and Marty! I would love to catch an episode of that, and of the original Mickey Mouse Club. Where have you managed to catch any episodes?

We love this movie its my 8yos favorite all time movie. You can find the updated version at amazon or a&e.com with Cathy Rigby. It is also excellent and available on dvd.

We were also lucky enough to see Cathy Rigby in her final performance here in Boston, my dds loved it so much.

My girls are figure skaters and my youngest does her program to a compilation of music from the play Peter Pan. She loves it so much and you can see that when she skates it!!

I remember as a kid asking my mother why Peter Pan was some lady instead of a boy, and she said it wouldn't be appropriate for TV to have Wendy, a young girl, go off unchaperoned with a young boy. IMAGINE if she saw what was on TV in today's world. She'd be spinning in the grave!

Peter Pan was actually written as a play before it was turned into a book and movies - We watched the movie "Finding Neverland" and it was really interesting to see the origins of Peter Pan.

I also watched this every year as a child. I bought the video when DD was young and she liked it more than the animated version. As a matter of fact, she watched it not too long ago when she was home sick.

My niece and youngest daughter LOVED this version when they were young. In fact, my daughter dressed up as Peter Pan two years in a row for Halloween, when I desperately wanted her to be Tinkerbell! Oh well, at least she likes Tink better now! princess:

My favorite part of that movie is the song "I've gotta Crow". Haven't seen the movie in probably 40 years. Strange what we remember.

This was the show that got me bitten by the acting bug when I was just 8! Although I was familiar with the Disney version (in fact, I though Disney created the story and that this version was based on it), I believe I actually saw this version first. It's really not a movie but a TV airing of the stage production from the 60s!

We taped it when it aired one Easter and after that, Wendy became my very first dream role. I used to watch the tape and mimic everything Wendy did, right down to getting on the floor in the part where she pretends to have been shot. hehe. To this day, I can sing most of the songs and recite much of the script. In fact, I used a scene from the original play for a directing class I took. I never did get to play Wendy though.

The Cathy Rigby version was my first live show. It came to town that same year. Mom and Dad had only bought tickets for themselves originally (they had season passes for the theatre), but when my sister and I found out they were going, we asked for tickets too and got to go. Ironically, I saw the same show 8 years later, and Cathy Rigby was still starring in it! I have the video of her version as well, but I'm partial to Mary Martin's version.

I was probably the only grade schooler who sobbed over the news of Mary Martin's death in the early 90s.

We got it at the local video store. They are a small town place - not a big Block Buster type store.

My two DD (8 and 2) loved it. They were glued to the set. DH and I thought it was entertaining but we were laughing because it's so dated, completely not PC, and so unusual compared to the stuff we normally see. The indians and pirates were so funny. I'll have to check out the Cathy Rigby version. . .
