And how successful were you? I was considering asking. My brother-in-law did this last time he went during easter vacation and got an upgrade from the wing at the CR to a tower room.

If you had success, did you lie, or just ask them nicely? I don't think I could lie. Please any help you can provide would be great!

i was upgraded in February from Wood view to main courtyard. All I did was ask the CRO to put in a request for upgrade on my reservation.
Then at check in, I pointed to the room I wanted ( opens to Lobby and Courtyard #4067 ) and she said "No Problem"..no stories, begging, nothing...but, I think it has ALOT to do with how booked they are..if they don't have many rooms available, I don't think you will get an upgrade. Also...I have found that if I check in early ( 9am ) I have a better chance of getting my room requests.
Good Luck!

DH and I always ask for an upgrade to purchase and we are always given one complimentary. It never hurts to ask, but don't get your hopes up on receiving an upgrade, with park attendance being up and getting into the peak season, I'm sure the resorts are selling out.

Good luck.

You know.... lying... Like my leg was broken, or "I have 1st and 2nd floor fears and need a tower room". Those kind of lies.

so it is a 50/50 shot depending how many kids are back at school.
I booked my ressie in March. You think it's o.k. to call CRO after and request?

What do you mean "lie"?

Definition used as a verb

1 : to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive
2 : to create a false or misleading impression

At any hotel anywhere, you can simply ask, "Are there any upgrades availalbe?" (politely).

I fot a free upgrade 2 weeks before Easter. My husband decided after all to fly down with my other daughter to see the band play at the Magic Kingdom.

I started at the All Star Sports and every time I talked to them, they gave me a free upgrade to CS or to Port Orleans. We took the Port Orleans.

I do know what the verb "to lie" means, just wasn't sure how it could get you an upgrade.

It won't, in fact it would probably greatly diminish any chances of getting one.

We are staying at the Poly LV in May....would they ever give a complimentary upgrade to concierge? Or is that just toooo much to ask for?:teeth:

I doubt it. You can ask though. :D I guess it would depend on how full the resort is and how long you're staying.

We got an upgrade to concierge at the Polynesian (garden view). It was in 1995 though. 10 night stay was upgraded. It was absolutely heavenly.

I have never asked before, I always chickened out at the last second:blush: Now I'm just paying for the level I'd like to be on. Although getting an upgrade must be a real thrill!:D

I too have always chickened out on asking for an upgrade. I just usually book what I can afford and am happy with that. It would be awesome to get an upgrade from a GV room at the Poly to a LV room at the Poly on our next trip. I will have to keep that in mind. Also, when you tell CRO that you want them to put a possible upgrade on your ressie, do they act like your crazy?

Last time I went we stayed at All Star Movies. When we checked in my credit card wouldn't work. Turns out they charged my card 10 TIMES for a week's worth of rooms. 10 TIMES!!!!!!! My card, of course, was maxed out and we had no money to even buy our tickets. It was a Disney credit card and they said it would take almost a week to clear. After crying my eyes out I called my husband at home who hadn't come. He called the front desk and explained to them that I was sitting crying in my car and that they needed to do something to fix it. The hotel KNEW they had charged my room 10 times but all they would offer was comp tickets for two days. They refused to upgrade to another hotel, they refused any comp tickets after two days, everything! AND THIS WAS TALKING TO THE GENERAL MANAGER!!!! I ended up having to have my husband transfer a bunch of money into our checking account so we could at least semi-enjoy ourselves there. I couldn't even get an upgrade when they messed up BIG TIME!!!

outstandinfarmer--how horrible. Just when you think YOU (meaning me) has had a bad experience, there's always someone who's had a worse one. You must've been beside yourself. I give you credit for even trying to make the best of that situation.

As for the original request....I've been upgraded probably about 6 times out of 60 visits. I've never asked but it's been offered. The only time I ever asked to be upgraded (and said I would pay for an upgrade), there were no rooms available.

Last year we had a series of room issues, but nothing like outstandinfarmer's. We checked into the All Star Movies and had a GUARANTEED non smoking room for severe medical reasons (yes this was on our confirmation) and the A/S Movies did not save or hold a room for us. We were politely told that we were being PUT into a room at the A/S Sports--the end of the resort facing the woods (the worse room location I've ever had at any All Stars). No, I'm sorry, no free tickets--nothing, zippo. I even asked if I could pay the difference and be put into a perferred room and was told no. OK, so only 2 days--wasn't going to kill us.

Then we moved to the CR for 7 nights--Wing standard room. We got our room and it wreaked of smoke. No way could either my grandson nor myself stay in that room without getting ill. So we went back to the desk. OK, they gave us another room (still in S. Wing) and when we got to it--it was occupied. OOOOKKKK we went to the desk and told them this. By now I was beside myself, especially after our experience at the All Star 2 days earlier, and feeling like "they just didn't care if we were happy or not." SSSOOOO now with our third set of keys in hand, we are given another room at the S. Wing, and this one is OK. After inconveniencing us for 2 hours, running back and forth to find our rooms, then back to the front desk, we're not sure if we even got an apology. No upgrades here for us. We made the best of it and tried to not let it ruin our trip. But now, everytime I go to the front desk at any resort I get this knot in my stomach thinking they are going to have bad news for us.

I never used to ask, and still have a hard time asking in person, but you can email requests a couple of days ahead of time, There is a specific email for each resport, but I don't have the link any more. My sister and I got an upgrade to a savannah view room at AKl (whoopeee!) and on a trip to New Zealand recently, every hotel gave us an update after I had emailed them all to say we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary (we were traveling during the off season, so I know that had something to do with it, but two places gave us champagne, too!!)

Asking gets easier if you practive - and have no expectations or feeling that you are entitled to an upgrade!

Good luck!

ok, so I may sound stupid but here goes.....

so, i dont get it.... I am going to be staying at CSR in 2 weeks, and lets say I ask if there are any free upgrades available. what would an upgrade at this resort consist of?

i saw some of you say you were upgraded to diff. resorts..... but does this also mean you could just get upgraded to lets say a suite at CSR?

i guess i'm just a little slow today
