Anyone ever rent from Ft. Lauderdale?

We are flying down to Ft. Lauderdale the first weekend in March for a wedding. Does anyone have any experience there? We have reserved a car through Hertz, but now I realize that they are not located at the airport (5 miles away). Budget is listed as having a location at the airport. The rate is about the same. Any opinions?
Thanks in advance!

personally I would use Budget at the airport especially if the cost is the same. That way you don't have the hassle of having to shuttle to to the offsite location. If Hertz even supplies a shuttle. They probably do but you should find out.
good luck

Hertz supplies a shuttle. We rent in FLL all the time. Most of the rental companies in FLL are off site. The Hertz site is a short ride from the airport and it is very easy to get on the major highways from that location. IMHO Hertz is the BEST rental company. I would go Hertz if you have a choice. We just rented from Hertz in FLL last week. Let me know if you have any questions?

I have rented from Ft. Lauderdale a number of times and each time I had to take a shuttle, even to the on property rental companies. What is "in the aiport" is the rental counter and the cars are located on airport property. FLL didn't have any rental agency that I can recall where you could walk from the terminal to your car, like in Orlando. I will say though that I haven't been to Ft. Lauderdale since last summer, and they were doing a lot of construction on the airport at the time. You may want to call the rental company and confirm, but as far as I know will need to take a shuttle to actually get into your vehicle in FLL no matter what agency you use.

Do you remember any that have a shuttle? Using Hertz we have to call a cab then they reimburse us.

Really? That is very strange. I could have sworn I saw a Hertz bus circling around the terminal. I have used both National and Dollar at FLL and both of those definately had shuttle service when I used them.

Thanks for the info! I reserved the car through Hertz and my confirmation gave me the instructions to call a cab??

This is from Hertz's site.

I have read it again and it appears that they are telling you to take a cab from the bus station. I see you are going to call them. Let us know what they say.

Now that I reread it, does that mean from the bus or train station take a cab? I am going to call them, I may be reading this incorrectly!

I rented from Ft. Lauderdale several weeks ago and they had Hertz shuttles running from their lot to the airport. No problems. I never have to wait for a shuttle when I rent from Hertz.
