Anyone ever relocated?

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has ever considered and has ever moved overseas thru work? My husband works in electronics industry and even though has a successful career here, and has worked hard to get to where he is, the opportunities in salary, home, weather etc is better in the US. We have a poss opportunity to move to Austin Texas, I have very mixed feelings, the usual, leaving family and friends, uprooting our 10 year old daughter, driving (for me)! Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. TIA. Xx

I relocated from Germany to the UK in July 1996. It was a requirement for my studies and was supposed to last for one year. 14 years later, I am still here. It was the best decision I ever made. I got so many opportunities here that I would never had in Germany.

I might well be doing it again. I got a couple of promotions very quickly and as a result, there is limited scope for progression here in the UK unless I have yet another change of career, which I don't really want. So there might be a relocation to Dubai on the cards within the next 2 or 3 years.

I relocated to CA and lived there for 10 years (I married a US citizen). For the first several years that I lived there I thought that there was no way that I would ever move back to the UK. However we moved back here around 14 years ago and we think that considering everything that is going on over there we made the right decision and wouldn't move back (other than to retire over there). Even my DFIL, who couldn't believe that anyone would want to leave the US and live anywhere else, has said in the last few years that we made the right decision for our family.

Most people who findout that DH is from CA can't believe that we are living over here when we could be living in CA. He always replies it's a nice place to vacation!!
