Anyone ever put fruit/snacks in checked bag?

Seems like a strange question...I was looking at the garden grocer and their prices seem a little high. Has anyone put some fruit...like apples or oranges (or other snacks) in their checked bag. Does it work...?

I brought all kinds of food in my checked bag - breakfast bars, applesauce pouches (put the whole box in a ziploc bag), yogurt covered raisins, baby food puffs and yogurt melts, etc.

I didn't bring any whole fresh fruit though. I'd be worried it might end up bruised. If you do it - I'd put it in ziploc bags just in case!

Oh yes all the time! I always use zip locs and bring all our snacks. I have even brought homemade muffins (put the in a big Tupperware container. We pack apples each trip too. But I don't usually pack them with clothes just in a suitcase with other odds and ends.

If you're worried about it getting tossed about, try packing the snacks in a small container within your luggage. I use rubbermaid storage boxes, bread holders, etc. when I travel without issue. For fruit, I have even wrapped it in bubble wrap before putting in boxes. The packing materials are also good for use on the trip home for small and breakable items.

We pack tons of snacks. Goldfish packs, applesauce pouches, all sorts of bars, fruit snacks. We eat breakfast in the room almost every day plus I always like to have something handy for my little guy "just in case. " I also like packing in a Rubbermaid type container or containers. I even pack Starbucks bottled double shots-1 for each day-I'm used to having a latte or iced coffee in the morning and this is an easy way to make sure I get my fix. I usually wrap those in bubble wrap and large ziplocks. Leaves lots of room for souvenirs on the way home!

For this trip, to cut down on costs, I'm packing all the clothes for my son and I in my suitcase, and in another one I'm packing all sorts of food. My son is really picky and gets upset if he can't have a pb and j sandwhich daily (or just jam when he's at school), so I'm packing a plastic squeeze bottle of jam and a small peanut butter container, bread, fruit snacks, peach and apple sauce containers, and all other goodies so we can take them into the park with us. It also means that when coming home I'll have a suitcase for all our stuff coming back!

I've put a ton of different snacks in our checked bags.

Baby food pouches, apple sauce, granola bars, cheerios, juice boxes, homemade trail mix, fruit cocktail cups.

Just make sure to ziplock anything that can leak.

Absolutely! We are a party of five flying Southwest and hopefully staying at the cabins. Two are large (older) teenaged boys. The only way we can control our budget is by mostly eating at the cabin.

Everyone's second bag will be mostly food items for us for the week. Obviously no liquids as we don't want bottles to leak on ours or others belongings.

Garden grocer is a great service but their prices are almost double on most items compared to what we pay at home. we are trying to minimize what we need to order.

I'm going in May and plan on saving Pringles containers for "cuties" my DD loves oranges :-) and this way they won't bruise and I can toss the can when they are gone and won't have to worry about my good Tupperware :-)

I would pack things that I cannot get in Orlando. Like my fave things from Trader Joe's, or my fave peanut butter from Safeway. But I wouldn't pack anything that could go bad if it sat on the tarmac in hot or cold weather, or that could be smashed. So I wouldn't put fruit in there. I'm pretty sure you can bring fruit in your carryon, so I would do that, instead of putting it in my checked bag. And I would put any "dry" snacks in carryon as well, just so I KNOW they are there with me. (obviously not peanut butter or anything else that TSA would take away)
