Anyone ever Make their own Mickey Ears?

Hi All
I don't get to craft as much as I used to, but I really want to make a special set of Mickey Ears for my upcoming 40th birthday celebration at the parks. I don't want the typical hat, I like the headband type of ears. I purchased a set from AK, the leopard ones, a few years back. I was thinking of covering them up with hot pink fabric (my favorite color) and adding lots of bling (rhinestones). I would like it to have something about my 40th birthday on them, like instead of Minnie's bow, to place it between the ears somewhere.....

I would love to know if anyone would like to offer their ideas?

I think your idea is fantastic. how are you going to apply the fabric to the ears? I never have a good turn out when I use fabric glue. Is it pink furry fabric or just plain pink fabric. Fur would be cute but difficult to add bling. anyways you must take pictures when you are done because I think your ears sound cute.

If anyone is interested, I saw this site on another thread....She makes deliveries to the resorts - gift baskets, Christmas trees, decorates the room, etc. She also has a whole listing of hats/ears.

Hi. I recently 'bling'd" out my Mickey ears with swarovski crystals. It was a lot of work but I sure love the end product.

I don't have pictures yet, and they aren't exactly Mickey ears, but we are heading to the world in August, and my daughter wanted Piglet ears. I did some searching around, and came to the conclusion that they are no longer sold in the parks, so I improvised. I had an old Piglet costume we had purchased on clearance for something like $5 before my son was born (we also got a Warlock costume as we weren't sure if we were having a boy or girl). I cut the head portion of it off, removed the inside lining, nose, and stuffing so all I had left was the furry outside with the ears on it.

There is a foam insert in the ears, and it protrudes into the head. I cut each of them in the middle so that I had two pieces of foam sticking down from each ear. I then bought a headband at the dollar store, and roughed up the shiny surface of it with sand paper. I coated it with contact glue (it's basically rubber cement). I also coated the foam tabs sticking down from the ears, and the inside of the fabric "head" around the ears. When the glue was ready, I pulled the two foam tabs on each ear in opposite directions, and stuck them to the inside of the head fabric. I then centered the ears over the headband, and stuck the head fabric / ear foam down to the headband. A bit more glue around the underside of the headband, and on the remaining fabric of the costumes head, and I wrapped the fabric around the headband, trimming it as needed to create a seam in the middle of the underside of the headband. When the glue was all fully dry, I used a curved needle and thread to sew up the middle seam just as insurance against the glue failing.

As soon as I finished the piglet ears, my four year old son decided he needed Pooh ears, and couldn't wait until we got to the parks. The Pooh ears were made with a painters cap from the craft store, some yellow fabric paint, yellow felt, and a couple of foam door knob hangers which I cut up to make the stiff inside for the ears. I made covers for the foam ear insides with the felt (a bit of sewing with the machine, and then finished up by hand once the foam inserts were in place), painted the cap, and glued the ears to the front of it. He too was very happy.

i love your trip report. i love all Disney but only been able to go the last few years to WDW and now i need to go yearly I just hope i don't over due it with the kids, my youngest can't wait til we go again(DEC surprise trip) but my oldest 9 is not really asking about when we go back. I really would love for them to grow up and still love it as much as i do but i also worried that they will get Disney-ed out)is that a word? Not in my vocabulary....lol... Do you still love it as much as when you were a kid?

I always find it interesting when I see people post that their child/tween/teen is out growing DL etc... I never lost my love for the parks. While in my later teens I might have favored more thrill rides, I always knew that deep down something like Pirates or Haunted Mansion were the creme de la creme!
