Anyone ever left their kids on board at islands?

I have a question regarding the kids programs on the ship. I've heard everyone on these boards post comments about their kids loving the programs and trusting the Disney workers with their even young young children. I am wondering if anyone has ever left the ship (like Key West for example) while their child was in one of the programs or daycare or was it allowed? I would like your opinions on this....does the beeper work off the ship? Traveling alone I would like to experience some things here and there that obviously my DD6 cannot due to age, etc.....is this an option?
Please be honest!

You are definately going to get answers for both sides of this arguement!!

In my situation, I felt very comfortable leaving my two dd's 9 & 6, at the time, on board while my dh and I explored Key West. They were not allowed to check themselves out. I knew they would be watched by the CM's. I do not know how far the beepers work...because my dd's never needed us.

In Grand Cayman we took them on stringray city snorkel tour. Which they didn't want to go because they were missing some cool things in the clubs.

In Cozumel we took them on the beach break. (they protested again!). After we board ship again, ate dinner, checked the kids into the clubs. We went back into Cozumel for a little shopping. The kids stayed in the clubs.

It will all depend on your daughter, if she feels comfortable. Do what you feel is best for her. If she is loving the clubs, let her stay!!!

IMHO :teeth:

Thank you for your reply...I figured I would get answers going both ways...

I see you will be down to under a year in just a few minutes....congrats...! WHOOHOOO

We left our kids on the ship while we walked around Nassau. We told them when we dropped off the kids that we were going into town, and they did say the pager likely wouldn't work through most of town. We were only gone about 2 hours. The kids REALLY didn't want to go into Nassau.

We took them with us into all our western ports.

During my last 3 day Wonder, my 7 yo son stayed on board while we explored Nassau. The club crew just asks for a general time when you think you will be back.

I personally would'nt leave them on board for long excursions, but for a few hours in port. I do not hesitate. They are excellent care providers!

One year!!! I can't wait.......I love the anticipation of a cruise....it is almost as good as the cruise.

I am trying to decide if when we go on our next cruise I will let my dd, who will be 11 then check herself in and out of the lab. I am trying to talk her best friend into going with us. I would feel better if they were together. I told her I might let her check themselves in and out on AT SEA days. But, while we are off the ship, they would have their privelages removed!

I hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise!!

LOL....when I first read the title of this post, I thought you had asked if anyone left their kids at the islands! I need to wake up :)

Gee - It's 1:30 ESt and I thought the same thing!!!

I will probably leave the kid(), when we do San Juan, probably just my 4 year old, but I will decide at the time. For a few hours, no problem, probably not for a half day thing though.
