far away from home? I mean I know folks have:goodvibes but I mean for no reason, like a job or family, just because you wanted to?

If you did was it just you or was it you & your family?

Both of my cross-country moves were for work but a brother of one of my friends has picked up and moved a lot just because he gets tired of where he is. He has lived in Madrid, Paris, NYC, and Charleston and is 27. There may be more but those are the only places I can recall. Some people just like to roam the Earth.

i would love to just roam the earth.

but OP, yes. DBF and I are in the midst of trying to decide WHERE to go..because where we are doesn't do anything for us anymore...

My parents did this. They lived here in Cedar Rapids my entire life, minus a 1 year stint in Memphis. They went on vacation 2 years ago to Clearwater Beach, FL and came back and decided they wanted to move there. :confused3 My dad works from home, so it wasn't a big deal for him to move. My mom is a nurse, so, enough said. She can go wherever she wants and find a job, basically.

So.. February of this year, my mom and little brother packed up and moved down there. They stayed in a long-term hotel until they could find an apartment, and then my dad moved all their stuff down in March. So far they like it. My mom gets incredibly homesick.. but really, when all your family lives in Iowa, and one day you just pack up and head to Florida.. I think that's almost a guarantee to get homesick. I was pretty mad at them for awhile (along with my uncle, he & my mom are best friends).. but, at least now I've got somewhere warm to go on vacation, I guess.

Yes we did DH and I.
Came to New Orleans on a vacation and loved it.
6 months later we moved from Nebraska away from family and friends.
Been in New Orleans over 30 years now.:wizard:

Yes, I did by myself. I was 19 and left NYC for southern California for a change in my surroundings. I did end up moving back, but I am happy I did it for a while. I am considering another move in the future.

21 years ago me and my parents left ohio for a 2 week vacation in florida. we were at siesta beach (sarasota) and i said "could you imagine LIVING here?". exactly one year later (to the week) we moved into our new house in sarasota. i was a junior in high school and my older brother and sister moved with us. i liked it here, but wish we never left all the extended family. our relationships have never been the same.
i'm ready for a move, but could never do it unless my parents and my sister and her kids would all relocate to the same place!!

I would LOVE to do that. I think it would be exciting. Maybe a few years down the road I'll be in a place where I can do that.

DH and I have moved 5 times to different states just because we wanted to. We enjoy change. We finally found the place we like the best and will be moving back there in a few months. We've been where we're at for a year (which is our average time in one place) and the last place we lived is still "home" so we're going back.

In a couple of years we're going to start taking extended vacations internationally and see where we like best. Our goal is to have a home in the U.S. for half the year and a home abroad for the other half.

I move with my job so it's not like I am just picking up and moving like you said but I don't care where I move to. When the govermentment asks for a preference, I put none. I'm 23 and originally from Oakland, CA and have lived in Melbourne, Australia; Washington DC and St Croix.

I was 34 years old and had never been outside America. I always wanted to go on vacation to Italy. We got the full experience by living here instead.

Yes I decided to join the air force. SO I ended up leaving my small little home in upstate NY an dliving in San Antonio and have moved 5 times since.:thumbsup2

When I was young (late teens/early 20's) I used to do that. Live in a place till I got bored with it, then move on. I got to live through out the south, Colorado, NYC, & MA. I finally settled in MA for a while and am now back on the move. I've always been a gypsy at heart :)

i would love to move-not because i don't like where i live, but because my family drives me insane and i would love to get away from them. DH and i have considered it, but we won't move further north because of snow and any further south means dealing with hurricanes. west means tornados and we're already in NE alabama, so moving further east into GA wouldn't get us far enough away.

If we could legally move to the US and work we would move in a second but not sure we would pick one place and stay put or try a few different places that we really like................
