I was able to book a one night stay last minute for later this month at VWL in a 1 bedroom, following a couple nights at Universal. There is pretty much NO DVC availability anywhere for that night so I know I was lucky to snag it. We would prefer a 2 bedroom. Can I ask to upgrade at check in, knowing chances are not good? I do have enough points to cover the upgrade. Anyone ever done this? ( I do have a wait list active por the two bedroom also.) Thanks.

One thing you can do is when you hit 10 days, you can call member services to check availability. Sometimes they can check cash inventory.

I wouldn't just trust the waitlist. Check the website frequently to see if something opens up.

I definitely have leaned not to trust the waitlist. I check availability myself several times per day. (That's how I got the rez in the first place.) Thanks!

You can ask but I caution you that the front desk doesn't do DVC/points well. My policy is to not let them touch my DVC reservation after they messed our points/accounts up a couple of times.

We had guests add the dining plan at check in, the front desk canceled the reservation, put the points in holding and borrowed points to create the new reservation with the DDP.

It took DVC several days and several phone calls to fix our account.

Yes, we were lucky last year during the first week of the Flower and Garden Festival when we had a split stay with the first 3 nights in a 2BR at Bay Lake standard view and our last night at OKW because we couldn't get availability at BLT for our last night when we made the reservation. When we checked in we asked about the last night availability and they were able to change our reservation at the front desk to all nights at Bay Lake so we didn't have to move. They also gave us a great view so we could see the fireworks even though it was classified as a standard view room. I think it had something to do with a snow storm in the northeast around the time we checked in so someone else's last minute bad luck with weather may have been our good luck with our reservation change, but I can't really say for sure. They also handled the points correctly in using the OKW points and taking the few additional points needed from the right use year, etc. We were very fortunate!

Thanks all. I will ask at check in. I did have one prior experience where we had to add a night at Kidani this past January since our flight was cancelled due to a NE storm. We had no issue with them taking the points correctly to add the extra night. The only thing that was an "error" worked in our favor. I guess, to housekeeping, the extra night we added appeared as a new check in because, to our surprise, we returned to a room that had received a full housekeeping service on day 5 of our stay.
