Anyone ever had a stroller stolen at the parks?

I'm about to buy a nice double stroller. I will use it alot and will use it for our upcoming Disney trip. I just hope it doesn't get taken. Has this ever happened to anyone? This is the only stroller I will have for my girls. It's not a wildly expensive one, but it's a nice Peg Perego. I've seen all the strollers parked and have always wondered if this has ever happened to anyone. Any ideas on how to prevent this?

I wouldn't use any stroller I couldn't afford to replace. Stolen strollers isn't a common occurrence, but it does happen and if someone goes to the trouble of stealing one I bet they'd target something that looks nicer/pricier than a $25 umbrella stroller. We took our Maclaren Volo (~$70) and didn't have any issues; if it had been stolen we would have been mad, but not devastated since it wouldn't kill us if we needed to replace it.

A good friend of mine had hers stolen back in October. She said security told her there had been 10 stolen in the MK that same day.

The best suggestion I"ve seen is to get a cable stroller lock and feed it through the back wheels so it can still be moved by CM's, but not wheeled freely out of the park. You are not allowed to lock it to something in the park.

We use Mabel's Labels on just about everything. http://www.mabel.ca/products/sticky+labels
They are extremely durable, and next to impossible to remove (we even use on clothing that gets washed frequently). Placing this where it is noticeable on the stroller would also likely detur a would-be theif.

Anyone have a pic of this so I can visualize how to do this? Where can I get a cable stroller lock? That's really sad about that many strollers stolen in one day - I would be soooo mad! Hopefully the cable lock would prevent someone from taking it.

I am always sad to say this, but my brother and sister-in-law had their stroller stolen some years ago. Luckily they didn't have anything of value in it. As another poster said, and what I always tell people who ask me, I would not bring a very expensive stroller to the parks and certainly not one that you could not replace easily. The vast majority of people never had any problems with their stroller and as you all know there are tons of them all over WDW, but IMHO better to be aware that it can happen and has happened.

Enjoy The Magic!!

Yes, Yes. Yes. It was stolen three times in a two hour time frame. It was a Disney rental at AK and they were trying a new type of stroller. My friend and wife rented it since there were only 5 available, thus being much easier to spot. Go to breakfast at Donald's Breakfastsaurus, Gone. Find it at Dinosaur, take it back. Go to Its Tough to be a bug, Gone again. Find it near the Safari. Go to Lion King, Gone.

I took their ticket back to customer service and ask for a refund of the rental. CM said I needed to return the stroller and I explained how it was swiped three times. She refunded the money and gave me a voucher for free rentals the rest of our stay.

Anything that you do not have physical control of all the time can be stollen, just be aware of that. I think that maybe why so many people just rent at the parks.

We have been on nine trips with a stroller and never had it stolen. We did have the rain cover stolen off the stroller once though. Left the stroller outside and took cover in Pizza Planet. When we came out the stroller was moved and the rain cover gone.

What about something like this? It's a bit "cutesy" for my taste, but it locks through the wheels making it difficult to move.

Stroller Cable Lock

I had this lock and loved it. For a double stroller, it doesn't fit all the wheels, just one side wheel and center wheel. It actually broke when I took it out to use it this past trip (i just kept it in the stroller bag so it prob got banged up on the plane)

We have never had our strollers stolen and yes we do bring expensive strollers to the park, because that is what we own and they are the ones we like. Our first trip we brought our Bugaboo and last time we brought Baby Jogger City Select double. But with that being said, we have always taken precautions to deter theft.
For example, on the City Select, we would remove the front wheels and throw them underneath in the basket.
For the Bugaboo we tied a balloon to the handle, cannot do this in AK, and prayed. We were really nervous about that one.
Just bring the stroller you are comfortable with and the one that your kids are comfortable with.

I've read a couple of these threads about stollers being stolen and haven't though much of it but now I am getting a little nervous. We have a very expensive special needs stroller that I will be using for my 8 yr old who has CP. He will be walking most of the time but will sit when he gets tired. I am going to get the sticker for the stroller from guest services that states we are using the stroller as a wheelchair so I can bring the stroller in lines but I wasn't planning on bringing the stroller through each attraction. Should I now do this to make sure the stroller isn't kept out of sight for long? Also I read on another thread about home owners insurance possibly covering the stroller if stolen. Does anyone know if this is true? I may have to look into that to ease my mind a little:confused: On one hand I think I may be safe because how much of a scumbag do you have to be to steal a special needs stroller but there are all kinds of people out there with questionable morals, even at WDW.

Stroller Cable Lock
Thanks, placed an order for the piggy lock today :) We are bringing our citymini and even though we have never had a stroller problem in the past I would hate to be without one or having to buy a new one while we are down there.

We "stole" an umbrella stroller at the MK. It was an umbrella stroller and when we folded it up to put in our car trunk, we saw it had a tag from MCO, a place we've never been. :sad2:

I don't know if the other person "stole" ours first but this could have been prevented if either of us had marked the stroller in some way.

Good luck with your stroller and have a nice trip.

:)

You definitely need to contact your agent on this because the terms & limitations of every policy can be different, even within the same company.

Our stroller wasn't stolen but the black plastic garbage bag I had put over it to keep off the sprinkle of rain was!! :lmao::confused3 But, being the planner that I am, I just reached into the bottom of the backpack (that was on the back of the stroller) and pulled out my spare to use for the remainder of the day!!:thumbsup2

Also remember your deductible. It might be more than the cost to replace the stroller.

I wanted to have my stroller stolen, but I couldn't find anyone who would help me out...

The stroller was close to $2000, luckily insurance paid for the majority of it but it would still suck to have to replace it.
