A real muffaletta is on a big round of bread, lunch meats and cheese with an olive tapenade. I don't know how close the ones at Port Orleans are compared to the real ones.

Are you talking about a muffaletta? It's a sandwich, usually with lots of sliced meat, and always with a delicious olive salad - kind of like chopped marinated olives. DELICIOUS!

A muffuletta is a round loaf of italian bread filled with italian meats and provalone cheese and a special olive salad. The olive salad is essentially a combination of chopped olives and marinated veggies (celery, carrots, etc.) so it's got some of the briney taste from the olives but is also vinegary. I hate olives but I can handle them on this sandwich. The photo above is of a sandwich made by Central Grocery in New Orleans, the creator of the sandwich. Yum!

A muffuletta is a killer round sandwich that was invented at Central Grocery in New Orleans, LA. I have had several of them fom that location but never had one from Disney. I would suggest getting one only if you truly enjoy "olives" if you do not enjoy the taste of olives I would avoid this for a meal. The sandwich contains but not limited to Provolone cheese, Genoa salami and Cappicola ham, topped with Olive Salad, unstuffed olives, with a host of other ingredients thrown in for good measure ;)

There is a restaurant near me that makes a chicken muffalatta- grilled chicken, melted provolone and the olive salad. I love it esp the olives. I may got to Riverside just to try it.

nolagirl - Now you've got me craving one!!:rotfl:

I'm craving one too now! I've lived here for about 5yrs and always avoided them because of the olives - I only recently tried one. How dumb was I?? They are so tasty!

They also sell them at the Food Court at POR FQ. They are delicious but HUGE...I won't ever order one for myself again, I will share with someone.

DS(17) always refused to taste one for the very same reason, now he LOVES them!;)

swandiverpat- Hi totally OT but I noticed you are from Clermont and that is where we are renting a house next month for our Disney trip we will be in the High Grove neighborhood, are you familiar? Any suggestions on short cuts to the parks or anything? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

I got a muffuletta at the Boardwalk Bakery. I have no idea if it tasted like the real thing, but it was very good.

Hi nolagirl,

Nice pic! I could go for one right now!

nolagirl - great idea. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. If only we had smell-o-vision!

And it looks like you'll be at WDW the same time as us!

If you were a fan of Italian hoagies would you like a muffalata?

My kids like Italian hoagies, so I think they would like a muffalata.

I don't like olives, but love this sandwich. the olive salad is marinated and it has an italian seasoning taste. Yummy

We often go over to POR to eat this sandwich and get some beignets.

When the weather is good it is delightful to sit outside near the water and the courtyard. It is a Disneyfied New Orleans experience and good for the budget as well.

Slightly Goofy

I stole that pic from the internet...not my own. But it sure does make the sandwich look tasty!

I really think it depends on whether they like olives or not. Personally, I really dont like them...I usually pick off any big pieces of olive, but little ones are fine when mixed in with the marinated veggies.

I haven't been to disney since I was 6yo in 1986. I am super excited!

Mmmmm! I grew up loving muffalettas from Central Grocery. After Rita blew thru I accidentally threw away my jar of their olive salad, but now I can get it at the grocery. Never thought about trying one at POFQ since we can get good'uns here. I'm a big guy but I usually just eat half a muffaletta with my bag of Zapp's potato chips and Barq's rootbeer.

It doesn't get much better than that!!!!
