Hi
Has anyone who has stayed on I-Drive ever taken the I-Ride trolley towards Universal?
How close can you get without having to get another bus?
Is the closest I-Hopper bus stop close enough to Universal to walk (10 mins walk ish max?)
Thanks
:thumbsup2

Do you mean the I Ride Trolley?
If so, the closest you can get is Wet n Wild (stop 7 or 8)
It's a 10 minute easy walk from there.

Yes, LOL! Where did I get get I Hopper from?!?!? LOL!
Sounds perfect.
Are the roads between Wet n Wild and Universal safe and friendly to walk along with our young kids?

As Kath says, the nearest stop on the normal I-ride route is probably Wet 'n' Wild. As to whether it's an 'easy' walk from there is probably subjective. Personally, I have never done it but you are talking about walking along some pretty major roads.

If you look at the maps on the links below, you may have a better idea of how easy/difficult it might be.

Google Maps

If you transferred from the standard trolley to the Green Line, that would get you as far up as Major Blvd, which may be a slightly easier walk. Not sure exactly how often those trolleys run though.

ETA: Just seen your follow-up post and, personally, I would not walk that route with young children. But, again, I haven't done it. Where are you travelling from? It probably wouldn't cost you more than a few dollars to get a taxi.

They're fine. There are pedestrian crossings at all the roads you'll need to cross. They're busy roads so you'll need to supervise small children the same as you would around a busy road back home. Lots of the paths are a fair way from the roads as you get nearer Universal so they're perfectly safe, and the path is blocked off from the road with concrete as you go over the bridge.

Saw lots of people with kids making the walk last month. You can often see fish, pelicans and reptiles in the lakes you overlook from the pathway.

The walk from Wet 'n' Wild to Universal is fine, it's about 10 minutes at a leisurely pace over a long bridge, then you can spot the Universal sign as you walk past a lovely lake and lush palm trees etc. We did it every day there and back.

Looking to stay at Vista Cay (quite near Sea World), but there will be 5 adults and 2 kids (who will be aged almost 3 and almost 6).

If we wanted to get a taxi, do they do them big enough to seat us all in one taxi, and what are the rules on car seats in taxi's as we won't be taking our own.

Yes, the front desk should be able to call you a cab if there isn't one available out front which is big enough for you all. There is no legal requirement to have car seats in 'vehicles for hire', i.e. taxis.

Where abouts outside of Wet n Wild does the I Ride Trolley drop you, and do you know if the long bridge you mention is a foot bridge or a road?
Just tried to look it up on Google Maps and I think you might be talking about Universal Boulevard which looks like a very large road with no paths to the side of it and I wouldn't want to take my kids on that (not even sure if you are allowed to walk on it - it looks pretty big - Motorway sized) so I think you might be talking about a different bridge?

Thanks, appreciate your help! :goodvibes

They drop you outside the entrance.
The bridge is a road with a path. The path is mainly blocked off from the road with concrete. It is indeed Universal Blvd - trust me, the paths are there, I've walked along them dozens of times. Like I said, it's mainly blocked off my concrete barriers from the main road so it couldn't be much safer.
Almost all of the roads in the US around Orlando are at least two lanes. It's not like the UK. But it's a well-travelled tourist route. You won't be the only family walking it.

Cool, thank you. I think I remember you saying previously that you never rent a car when you go.
I have only ever stayed on site at WDW before and either used free shuttle buses and Mears transport or we had a car, but I was younger and not old enough to drive then.
We really don't fancy driving, not because of fear of driving over there, but we are a family that like to have the odd tipple here and there with our dinner and we don't want anyone to always have to say no because they are on driving. Everyone in our party is on holiday and should be able to relax.

Another one here who thinks the walk to Universal from Wet n Wild is completely fine :)

As PPs have said, the pavements are either blocked from the road with concrete barriers (the Wet n Wild end) or bushes and greenery the closer you get to Universal.

We walked it many times last summer, and when we got off the I-ride trolley we'd have a little gathering of people who used the I-Ride trolley with the same intentions to get to Universal, and would all walk over it together like a little convoy :rotfl2:

My tip is to pop into the Walgreens across from the bus stop to maybe get a nice cold bottle of water for the walk over :) Can't beat it in the summer :thumbsup2

The I-Ride trolley is so cheap, that I couldn't justify getting a taxi myself.

When we used to stay on I Drive at The Four Points opposite to wet n wild, we would always walk across to universal! There is the 2 of us with no kids but I wouldn't hesitate walking with kids too! Paths all the way :)
