Our church is going in July. Don't know all the details yet. But I am a 43 yo nurse. My son will be married off in March. Our house will be paid for and I think I would like to do this.
Just would like to hear from anyone else who has done this before and what the experience was like?
I have never traveled outside the country before.

our church is sponsoring a mission trip to Brazil this year too. I'll have to check the month. I'm from Oklahoma and its a Baptist church.

Not to Brazil, but I have done some mission trips to the Dominican Republic and I can honestly say it was the best experience. I have worked on both construction crews and medical teams amd loved both- Good luck and if you decide to go I bet you will find it to be one of the most rewarding and enlightening experiences!

I have been on two mission trips to China. All I can say is GO!! Both of my trips have been the hardest, not to mention the most rewarding, thing I have ever done. I really cannot encourage you enough to go, especially since you are a nurse. If I can help you, or if you have any questions, please let me know.

Cheryl

Just out of curiosity, when churches sponsor mission trips is it just to help the people of that country or are they trying to also convert them to Christianity?

My sister and her whole family went on a mission to Argentina some years ago....... and loved the experience.

Good luck to you!!

Not to Brazil, but my nephew goes to Mexico every year for a couple of weeks. He is fluent in Spanish and acts as an interpreter. I know he enjoys doing this every year.:D

My former boss went on Mission trips annually & once she did go to Brazil as part of a medical team. It was a very humbling experience from what I remember her telling me as where they were, there were no showers & had to use "out houses." The housing conditions were horrible to our standards.

A poster asked if they tried to convert the natives to Christianity...well, no but they did run a little "Vacation Bible School" for anyone who wanted to go & people were flocking in droves!

What a wonderful selfless thing you are considering. My boss loved going on her mission trips & she said that you change your whole way of thinking once you've been on just one Mission trip.

Thanks so much for your replies. The fact that I have been a nurse for 20 years is one thing that compels me to do it and I also love people. I am at a point in life where no one is dependent on me on a daily basis. I am working PRN - so I am not committed to a full-time job. Wednesday night there is a program about this and I can't wait to hear some of the details.
