I just thought I'd check and see if there ever was any hope :worship: of getting bumped up to a deluxe from a moderate?

A co-worker of mine was on her honeymoon :bride: and they gave her an upgrade to Poly from CBR for no extra charge.

Hello, Weluvdisny. That is wonderful that your friends experienced some Disney magic. It is very rare to hear a story about someone being bumped from one resort to another.

For me, I've been vacationing in WDW for well over 10 years. I have never been bumped from one resort to another. It has also been very rare for me to be bumped up from one room category to another within the same resort (I was fortunate to be bumped up from a Standard View room to a Preferred View room at the Pop Century last May; that was very unexpected). I always make sure that if I want a specific room category or a specific resort, that I make a reservation for such. That way I know exactly what to expect and can plan my vacation accordingly.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

DW & I visited WDW and stayed at the YC/AKL , we recieved a room upgrade at YC because of our anniversary. :cool1:  As for getting upgraded from a moderate resort to a deluxe is probably not going to happen. good luck just the same :goodvibes

I would think it would be a pretty unusual circumstance to get bumped to a different resort. I believe when POFQ was under rehab people who had ressies there were offered an opportunity to upgrade, but I might be mistaken.

Many people make PS and plan around the resort and the resort's location so everyone might not be as happy as you to get bumped. Many people like the small feel of POFQ, and might not like to be moved to somewhere like CR, which is totally different. Many people feel AKL is too far away from everything, so they might not like to be changed there. I know when I select a resort it is because that is where I want to stay. I would be disappointed if someone changed that for me.

While not impossible, it's not likely you'll get a complimentary upgrade from a value to a moderate,a moderate to a deluxe or a regular room at a deluxe to concierge. Usually when these kinds of upgrades have occurred it's been due to overbooking and/or the room originally booked being taken out of service for rehab such as when POFQ closed a few yrs ago, those who booked well in advance of when they scheduled the resort to be closed for rehab were offered either rooms at the other moderate resorts for no additional price or rooms at the deluxe resorts like the Poly for a very small jump in price compared to if they had booked the Poly in the first place.
Usually, the complimentary upgrades that I've personnally experienced and have heard of others, have been from things like standard view to preferred view OR a regular room to maybe a king bed room. Kudos to your friend on the upgrade for her honeymoon though! Alot depends on how booked/busy the resort may be at any given time to be able to give the upgrades and I've heard of people upgrading to things like concierge upon check in for less than if they originally booked before hand but if you have your heart set on a particular room or view then my suggestion is to book it in the first place as to not be dissappointed. If you'd be fine with booking the lesser room but would be pleasantly surprised and delighted if you luck out then that's another story. ::yes::

So to your original question of "is there hope?" sure...nothing is impossible but "is it likely?" I'd say probably not...at least not from a lesser resort to a higher catagory resort :rolleyes1

Ok we were at POFQ back in 2001. We had stayed there before and were hoping to again. Well after we made reservations, they told us we could only spend 3 nights there and would have to transfer us to Riverside. So we accecpted although not pleased. Well then later we got another call and they offered us a Delux room at Aniaml Kingdom lodge. It had the Savannah veiw and bunk beds! They had regular Savannah veiws but the ones with the bunk beds were Delux. We were pleased and accepted.(No extra charge). So it is possible just rare.

I think a lot of the free upgrades are done when a resort goes in to rehab and they have to move you.

I would gladly accept a free upgrade to a deluxe from a mod. Would love to stay at the Poly, but can't afford the price! lol

After 9-11 Disney mothballed some of the moderate resorts. Some people got upgraded to deluxe for a small extra charge and I think some wound up getting upgraded for free.

Most resort rehabs are scheduled and they wouln't have booked you there if the resort was schedule to be closed.

I guess it's possible that a business/convention needed extra rooms in CSR and guests might get upgraded from that resort but upgrading from one resort class to another is very rare.

Yep went end of october.

We didn't receive a complementary upgrade, but we did receive a "Manager's Special" where we were offered Concierge Level from a Woods View room for an additional $35 a night. Of course, I said "YES!"

We had reservations at All Star Movies, but when we arrived, there was some mix-up. The CM frowned when she looked up or reserveration, then called somebody explaining to them that we did not have room number assigned. She then smiled and told us that we had been upgraded to the POLY! There was no extra charge. They even sent a van to transfer us. We had a 4-night MYW park-hopper and Dining package.

I assume that resort was overbooked. There was a cheerleading :cheer2: event going on, so I suspect that may have been the root cause.

This was an extremely nice surprise, as I had my 80 year old mother in-law along, so it made for an extra special trip.
