Anyone ever find a rental from VRBO?

I haven't used VRBO, but homeaway twice this year and both times the owners gave me a lower rate. I asked for their best available rates and both times they gave me a lower season rate.

We are in the process of renting from Vacation People.com, very similar to VRBO. The house we were looking at was I think 625 a week, I simply asked the owner if she offered any discounts for multiple weeks (we are going for 2 weeks in September) and she came back with an offer of $500 a week including tax. Much better than we expected, and I think a very good deal- it's at Regal Palms? . It seems to be a cheaper resort overall, with some bad reviews, but the problems seem to be limited to people renting from management companies or the resort itself not private owners.

Anyway, it does pay to ask sometimes.

I've rented twice from VRBO. The first time, we had ALOT taken off the price, but we were renting in Tucson in July-not exactly prime time. What I did was tell the owner what our budget was, and did he have other properties that could fulfill our needs. He came back with an offer that fit our budget. We also rented 9 or 10 nights, so the amount was worth it to him. He also knew (as I did) that there were many many more properties that would give us the price we wanted.

I am also renting this summer in Savannah. No discounts, but the location is perfect for what we need and is running about $100 a night, total, when a hotel room would be at least $130 plus tax plus parking. So a good deal.

We've rented twice from VRBO and had really good experiences. Both times the house was much nicer than I had even expected. We rented in Denver last week, and it was like visiting at a family member's beautiful house.... in a really good way!

We have rented twice through VRBO. Once for a condo in Myrtle Beach, SC and the second time a house in Surfside Beach, SC.

The first time I was not sure what I was doing and now know the owner I was dealing with did not either. She offered no contract and I (like a dummy) sent her money without one. The rental turned out nice and we had a few minor problems, that she handled fairly quickly. The major one being the fact when we arrived the key holder on the front door did not have a key in it, so we had to wait about 45 min for them to arrive with a key.

My second rental was a house and way more money, but I researched more and found a wonderful owner who was very prepared and her contract was very clear and she provided all the info we needed. Had no problems, house was great and would love to stay there again!

Just need to do a little research on VRBO and inquire about several properties. When you find what you want, make sure they offer a contract showing what both parties are responsible for and the costs associated with the rental. Also, lots of pictures are key. You need to be able to see what you are renting. I asked both times for extra pictures and were gladly given them.

Just wanted to add that our first rental, I was dealing with a newbie to VRBO and it was her own condo where she had lived. She got married and moved in with her husband so they were using her condo as a rental, for the first time. So she was learning and I realized that, but not everyone is honest!
