DH and I are toying with the idea of a quick 4 day Wonder next year without our 4 kids. We are taking them on a 7 day Magic next Thanksgiving and thought we might do a cruise ourselves the early part of the year or in the spring. We don't think we could go for a week w/o them, but 4 days would be nice. Anyone else done this?

We haven't personally, since we don't have kids (unless you count the furred, hooved, and feathered kind). But over the course of 37 Disney cruises, we have met many people who were doing this. Although some said they felt guilty about doing something "Disney" without the family, ALL said they were having a great time!

I am sure we will feel a bit guilty :guilty: but I know we would enjoy the time to ourselves. We considered another cruise line but when you know how great DCL is, its like why take a chance with anyone else?
Now we just need to figure out when to go.
Thanks.

Our 1st DCL cruise was without the kids (had to test it out to make sure that they'd like it ;) ) and we're going to take another "Mommy & Daddy only" cruise this July. Like you, we have a 7 day planned for later in the year with the whole family.

We have done a number of Cruises without the kids (Not DCL: RCCL and a Greek Island cruise). (About every four family vacations we take a Parent's vacation)

Kids went on their own "vacation" to favorite uncles, or to Grandma and Grandpa's.

WE LOVE IT.

It gets you to remember what you liked about your spouse as a person, before you liked them as a parent.

Yes, you miss the kids. Yes, they miss you. But not always.

As you are looking into your wife's (or husband's) eyes in an outdoor restaurant at the foot of the Acropolis, with the sun setting on the Parthernon, the kids are the last thing on your mind.......

Melissa,

Mary and I did a 3 dayer in January 03, spur of the moment type of thing. Was getting winter doldrums and cruise price was "excellent", pricing on SW airlines was "excellent". so couldn't pass it up. quick book and away within three weeks.

Of course my kids are grown but it was still hard since we do almost everything with Cindy (adult daughter) and Alex, grandson
when it comes to Disney.

Go for it, but let me know when if you decide, because, I can see already that 500 + days till our next cruise is WAY to long to wait for that Disney magic and I can feel an intermin mini cruise in between. It is always better to have someone you know on a cruise than by yourselves, and you and Shawn are great people.

YES

6 of them .... we donot have Kids 7 and 8 planned....

We have no kids--yet however we want to have some fun on our own before we start a family so this November it will be just DW and myself!

Don't feel guilty, we are going on our first Disney cruise WITHOUT our 2 dd's. We are going to celebrate our 15th anniversery and my husbands graduation from grad school. We are going with 3 other couples doing the same thing (no kids). We can't wait. Plan something fun for the kids to do while you are gone and they won't miss not being on the cruise.

Yep, and for once in 5 1/2 years I had a real vacation. ;)
We had done the 3 day as part of the land sea package with our kids(then 3 1/2 & 8 months) and my whole family back in 2000. While it was fun, my oldest was very difficult and my youngest was still a lot of work. We didnt do any of the adult stuff, with the exception of 1 hour away from the kids for the surial bath.
Almost 2 years later we were able to work it out that we could spend 1 day/night in WDW then take the 3 day cruise. It was a totally different and wonderful experience.
Im a firm believer in couples, even parents, needing alone time together. I know alot of people say their kids would never "let" them go to WDW with out them, but I feel its the parents decision where they choose to spend their vacation. If you feel its right for you go and enjoy! :D
